2024 was an interesting year for the Tech sector in Manitoba! The news had some roses, more buds, and a prominent thorn 🌹 Here are the top stories from 2024: In the first half of 2024, Manitoba raised the least of any Province in Canada in the first half of the year. With only one venture deal reported to the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA), Manitoba’s collective tech companies raised less than $1M. Despite poor fundraising numbers in the beginning of 2024, there was a lot of good news. 🌺 FLORA (Flora Fertility), a service that helps you plan, predict, and pay for your future fertility, closed a $1.5M pre-seed round. ⏰ ConstructionClock successfully completed a $1M pre-seed raise with the goal to become the #1 app for construction teams. 🛫 Plannin, a platform that helps travelers discover and book trips, has raised money from Golden Ventures. The former Priceline execs are hoping to disrupt the $475B online travel market. 🌾 Tall Grass Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on AgTech, has announced that it has closed its inaugural fund with a total fund size of $32 million. 📈 Conquest Planning Inc., a financial planning software for wealth advisors landed deals with Raymond James Ltd., Manulife Wealth, and Desjardins. 👯♀️ 3Common has signed ticketing partnership contracts with with the Williamsburg Comedy Club in Brooklyn New York, the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain in Winnipeg, and more. 🌎 TheoryMesh is taking part in a new project funded by the Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network to measure greenhouse gas emissions for dairy producers. 📺 Taiv has launched Atlanta, San Francisco, and San Diego. TAIV was also named one of Y Combinator's top computer vision startups for 2024. 🩺 QDoc Inc., a virtual healthcare platform, has launched their iPhone App and secured a contract with the Manitoba Government to provide 25,000 visits with Nurse Practitioners. 🐣 Bobo has released their MVP – it's Canada's first baby super app. 💻 Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew created an Innovation and New Technology department, and appointed Mike Moroz as the Minister of Innovation and New Technology. "Tech Thursday" provided valuable insights! The panelists showcased their excellence in the Etech industry, highlighting their international client outreach and diverse roles in scaling start-ups. As someone with experience in managing a Learning and Development firm, their journey deeply resonated with me. Congratulations to Ben Buckwold, Carly Shuler, Priyanka Tuteja, and Monica Morosan on your remarkable journey. Wishing you continued success. Kudos to Corinne Gusnoski for moderating; your support for Winnipeg businesses is truly commendable. Emile Morrissette, it's always a pleasure connecting with you. Happy days indeed! #TechThursday #Etech #StartupJourney #Winnipeg #Manitoba - John Sparrow, Shaelynn Stimpson, Bashir Mustapha

2024 Wrapped: A year of new starts! Disclaimer: This post is so incredibly shameless – I'm sorry. 1. Started a Company - In July, Tech Thursday was spun out of Neo Financial to be its own company, with Paul Card running the events in Winnipeg - Hosted 97 events, across Winnipeg and Calgary, including one in San Francisco - 11,500+ Attendees - 100 people per event in our two markets 2. Started a Non-Profit - Myself and 7 friends took a one-off event and turned it into a non profit called The Patrol Foundation - Just great friends volunteering together - Raised $30k for Local Kids sports through The Balance Foundation - Raised $60k for Alberta Cancer Foundation - 1000 Attendees at our 3 events: a Charity 10k, a formal gala, and a stampede event 3. Started a Run Club - Along with Nina Hill and Katherine Smith we starting Offline Wellness Club's run club - We met every Wednesday - Went viral on TikTok - 100 people every week, maxed out at 300 people per week What a whirlwind. If 2024 was the year of new starts, 2025 is the year of growth. 📈🚀 2025 – Let's get it!
