We wish all those celebrating a Happy Kwanzaa! Habari Gani! Do you know why the colours red, green and black are significant to Kwanzaa? Black represents the people of African descent. Red represents the blood of African ancestors, including the blood they shed in their struggles for freedom. Green represents the fertile land and hope for the future. There are seven guiding principles of Kwanzaa, each representing values of African culture that reinforce community. Each day, a candle is lit on the candle holder, and a principle is discussed with family and friends. The end of the holiday is celebrated with a day of reflection and recommitment to the seven principles. The seven guiding principles are: 🖤 Umoja: Unity ❤️ Kujichagulia: Self-Determination ❤️ Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility ❤️ Ujamaa: Cooperative Economics 💚 Nia: Purpose 💚 Kuumba: Creativity 💚 Imani: Faith
