Last week at Open Farm, we embraced the holiday spirit by giving back and upcycling our branded items. Our Impact team brought back an employee favourite event and hosted the second ReLove Your Swag clothing swap event. This initiative encourages employees to clean out their closets and give our branded clothing a new lease on life (you could call us thrifty!). Not only does this event help us refresh our wardrobes, it also helps us reduce consumption and minimize our environmental footprint. We also organized a food drive for our neighbours at Fort York Food Bank (FYFB), the largest and busiest food bank in downtown Toronto, serving over 5,500 people weekly. We're grateful for the incredible work FYFB does for our community and are honoured to support them in any way we can. Our team flew around the world to visit our amazing farm partners in Australia and New Zealand 💚 They came back more inspired than ever! Our co-founder Jac shares what they saw:
Last week Hugh Underwood, Anne Malleau, SOUAD BEN BRAHIM and I went around the world and back to visit some of our amazing farm partners in Australia and New Zealand. We watched the animals graze the hills, lay in the tall grass, and feed their babies. We met friendly cows, curious deer, and very shy sheep. We learned that cows love to graze long grass, sheep short grass, and that deer are as picky as toddlers. Together they shared the pastures and all played their own special role in the ecosystem, regenerating the grass just by doing what they naturally do. Our farm partners not only opened their farms to us, but their homes as well. We met their families, learned their stories, and laughed a lot. It was incredibly inspiring to see how passionate they are about farming and raising their animals this way. They don’t do it to hit buzzwords - they do it because it works for the land, animals, and the productivity of their farms. We could not be more proud to partner with them!

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we have been incredibly inspired by the resilience and dedication of the ASPCA in their vital work to help pets and pet parents impacted by the storm. To support in the ASPCA’s disaster response efforts, Open Farm recently donated 20,000 lbs of Goodbowl dog food to provide nourishment for the many displaced animals and to ease the burden of the affected shelters across North Carolina. To date, the ASPCA has helped over 15,000 animals through their Hurricane Helene response efforts across several southern states. We are honoured to stand with the ASPCA and many other partners who are tirelessly working to bring care, relief, and a sense of normalcy back to pets and their people.
