Meet Ainsley! 👋 Ainsley DeGroot was one of our Geotechnical Technicians this past co-op term! Her time at MTE was made worthwhile, as Ainsley had lots of experience working on a variety of projects: "What I enjoyed most about working at MTE was being exposed to variety of different construction projects in multiple different locations. This was a great learning experience, especially for a co-op student like myself! All of my coworkers were phenomenal at training me and were available anytime I needed help or advice. I also learned plenty about geotechnical engineering and the construction field through having conversations with them. This was extremely useful during my work term and made my experience very meaningful!" #tbt to the 2015 renovations to the historical The Boulevard Club, located right on the lakefront of Toronto! ⛵ As the only lakefront, multi-sport recreation and social club in Downtown Toronto, The Boulevard Club is a well-known community among Torontonians. Our structural team provided structural engineering services, focusing on the complex structural design of the building. This included the creation of curved and sloped exterior steel stud walls supported by uniquely shaped steel HSS framing in the West Wing Replacement. Additionally, MTE designed the structural framework for the building’s exterior soffits. On December 10th, MTE had the privilege of attending the Toronto Region Board of Trade's Race for Space event, focused on navigating Toronto's employment lands crisis. MTE's Chief Growth Officer, Charles Finley, along with other industry experts moderated this discussion, bringing us one step closer to finding solutions that support both the growth and sustainability of businesses in the region. As the demand for housing continues to grow, Toronto is facing a critical shortage of employment lands—spaces that are home to over 1.5 million jobs, including 88% of the region’s high-paying manufacturing roles. These lands, crucial for industrial, commercial, and institutional uses, are under increasing pressure. Founded in 2019, the Women in STEM Committee was created to foster open dialogue, support, and empowerment for women in the workplace, particularly within the male-dominated fields of engineering and technology. We're fortunate to have nine inspiring women leading the committee throughout our 5 offices, each dedicated to driving positive change and advocating for gender equality at MTE. These women not only organize events and initiatives but also create a safe and inclusive space where women can connect, collaborate, and thrive. Through their efforts, they continue to break down barriers, champion diversity, and ensure that all voices are heard and valued in the workplace.
