We get it. Public policy can be dense — that’s why Canadian Chamber of Commerce's Policy Matters aims to translate dry legislation, regulation and other federal decisions into informative and (hopefully) interesting reads. Counting this one, they published 12 Policy Matters in 2024, covering a broad range of topics from productivity to housing to international trade. While a lot has happened in 2024, their three most popular topics — productivity, CUSMA and agriculture — are as relevant as ever. Dive back into the topics with this year’s final edition of Policy Matters: https://lnkd.in/gB7vimcv

Canada's merchandise exports saw a positive turn in October, rising 1.1% after several months of decline. This growth, driven primarily by higher prices and a weaker Canadian dollar, is seen as a sign of hope for the fourth quarter. However, Canadian Chamber of Commerce Senior Economist, Andrew DiCapua, cautions that this recovery is not as widespread as needed, and the increase is largely attributed to specific factors. With the looming threat of a 25% tariff on Canadian exports to the U.S., companies are expected to stockpile inventories, creating additional uncertainty around trade prospects.
