LOLA is excited to introduce The Hive, a landmark multi-family residential building located in the vibrant Sunnyside neighbourhood along 9A street. This innovative, transit-oriented development is designed to promote urban mobility, featuring a reduced motor vehicle parking ratio and prioritizing walking and biking. The project's main entry plaza serves as a connector, integrating with the Bow-to-Bluff landscaping strategy and incorporating pollinator gardens and accessible seating areas. designed for inclusivity, the space features a sloped walkway that ensures a seamless connection for all visitors. The Hive uniquely blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, with a community lounge that opens onto the plaza, fostering interaction and engagement with the local community. In collaboration with three talented local artists, we have transformed the lounge and buildings south elevation with vibrant murals, enhancing the cultural landscape of Sunnyside. This approach reimagines traditional multi-family design, prioritizing community and vibrancy. we're proud to contribute to a more connected and engaging urban environment. 📸 : Chris Amat

When Lloyd’s Roller Rink closed, Calgary Roller Skate needed a new home to keep the city's skate culture alive. Enter LOLA Architecture, who took on the challenge in 2023, transforming the old Frank Sissons Casino into House of Skate—a bold and innovative space for skaters of all ages. LOLA’s modern, minimalist design highlights the skate floor, with sleek white walls and dynamic lighting that shifts the atmosphere from daytime lessons to night-time skating sessions. Over time, these walls will become a living gallery, showcasing local street art and roller culture. With features like a cozy food area, gender-neutral washrooms, and a retail space curated by Nerd Skates, LOLA has created a venue that is as functional as it is inspiring. House of Skate is more than a space—it's a new chapter in Calgary's skate story, brought to life by LOLA's vision. 🖤

Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club is undergoing an extensive phased transformation of its site. In 2020, LOLA Architecture was engaged to review the club’s existing programming and develop a comprehensive master plan. This plan encompasses five phases of exterior and interior renovations, focusing on improving site access, optimizing daily functions, enhancing accessibility, and updating the overall aesthetic. Phase 1 concentrated on revitalizing the Spike Lounge Restaurant, with a particular emphasis on enhancing current functions and member access. The revisions to the bar and kitchen facilitated easier deliveries and improved operations, while also allowing for better placement of the bar, making it the central feature of the lounge. A private dining room was created, separated by a transparent, temperature-controlled wine display, offering a more intimate dining option. The design exudes a warm, inviting ambiance with natural, earthy tones and subtle references to golf culture through textiles and flooring. Stay tuned for upcoming phase announcements! 📸: Joel Klassen

This weekend had us dreaming of summer days and reminiscing about our Kid's Camp project! Nestled northeast of Sundre, Alberta, this Dining Hall/Day Lodge project is more than just a building—it's the heart of the camp. Designed with versatility in mind, it'll serve as a hub for corporate retreats and a cozy spot for campers to gather. Despite facing challenges like steep access and dense vegetation, our team embraced these constraints to create a design that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings. From the split-level entry to the walk-out basement, every detail maximizes space and fosters community.
