About us
FAAS is a firm bringing together like-minded, experienced people who wish to do things a little differently. The awarding winning founding partners at FAAS have worked together for a decade. Together the members of FAAS have over seventy years of collective experience working on project types diverse as industrial, educational, healthcare, residential, commercial, mixed use, institutional, as well as large-scale infrastructure and master planning projects. FAAS has established a design strategy based on utilizing rational analytics as the means of exploration. The studio simultaneously applies dynamic project management principles to provide organization and structure to the design process. This strategy provides the context for understanding design intentions within the processes of construction. The ultimate purpose of the FAAS collective lies within the belief that the realization of the project is the true purpose of design research. The FAAS collective works on the principle that it is the gathering and sharing of information by experts that fosters a positive creative environment and results in the strongest solutions for our clients. We are people centric. We believe in hiring the people, not the firm. It is the individual people at FAAS and their past experiences who provide strength, efficiency, and excellence to each project that they work on. Important to FAAS is the consistency of a project team from beginning to end. The individual people, the partners and team members assigned to each project in the office at the beginning of the process, will be the same faces you will see throughout the project. The Calgary Stampede Foundation, together with The Calgary Stampede, marks an important chapter in southern Alberta’s history with the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Sam Centre. Designed by Diamond Schmitt, with FAAS - Formed Alliance Architecture Studio as associate architect, the Sam Centre draws on historic prairie #architecture and responds to the Stampede’s mission of community building—promoting a sense of gathering which has been engrained in the culture of the Stampede since its inaugural event in 1912. The new 30,000-square-foot Sam Centre is a permanent place for guests to experience and discover The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth year-round. Inside, a century of stories is brought to life in an immersive, engaging, and interactive experience that blends the modern with the historic. This week, we had the honour of welcoming our Donors, Partners and Stampede Family to Sam Centre for a sneak peek before we officially open to the public May 29! Lead Donor, Don Taylor, and his wife Ruth kicked off the event with an official ribbon cutting as we opened our doors to guests for the first time. Encompassing the twists & turns and the dust & dazzle of Stampede's greatest stories, Sam Centre invites guests to discover Stampede year-round with interactive exhibits, immersive multimedia shows and compelling storytelling that that puts you in the centre of this incredible living legacy. In line with the City’s goals for sustainable growth and a more compact urban form, Calgary’s Main Streets initiative outlines 24 Main Streets across the city which are well-suited for long-term growth and intensification. Coco sits at the confluence of two Main Streets: 33rd Avenue and 14th Street SW. Coco is a Main Streets-aligned, mid-rise residential development providing affordable urban living through sensitive intensification in the established community of South Calgary. The refined four-storey building offers a mix of one-to-three-bedroom units and city homes, enhancing the area's livability by adding additional housing options and a modest increase in density to support the many neighbourhood shops and services nearby. Community feedback was a central tenant of Coco’s design and development, with a significant focus on street interface and the transition to adjacent properties.
