  • 🌊 A changing climate is threatening our oceans. Oceans and coastal ecosystems absorb carbon dioxide from human activities, leading to ocean acidification. Combined with rising sea levels and warming temperatures, these changes pose serious risks to marine and coastal ecosystems and the communities that rely on them. Explore how #Atoms4Climate helps us better understand the impacts of climate change to our oceans.

  • Indonesia has launched a new National Cancer Control Plan, building on conclusions and recommendations from two recent IAEA review missions. The plan includes an action plan to expand radiotherapy and nuclear medicine services across 34 Indonesian provinces, based on the findings of these missions. Conducted with World Health Organization and IARC - International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization, the IAEA missions provided comprehensive assessments of the country’s cancer control capacity and needs. “This National Cancer Control Plan is expected to harmonize all stakeholder interventions to reduce cancer incidence, improve survival rates, and enhance the quality of life for those affected by cancer,” said Indonesia's Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin. • The Dominican Republic set out to eradicate the invasive and highly destructive Mediterranean fruit fly—and they succeeded in record time! This marks the second time the country has eliminated this invasive insect using the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), with support from the IAEA, FAO and OIRSA. The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Agriculture detected the pest near Punta Cana and swiftly responded to contain the outbreak. Thanks to early detection, the affected area was confined to less than 50 km², and the eradication of the pest was declared less than 10 months after initial detection. This was a significant improvement compared to the Mediterranean fruit fly outbreak in 2015, which affected an area of over 2000 km² and took 2 years to contain. Curious how it’s done? atoms.iaea.org/4gfjICJ
