Thank you, University of Waterloo, for supporting our development of a saliva-based approach to concussion detection!!
🧠 Concussions are among the hardest injuries to diagnose in sports, but HeadFirst, a University of Waterloo Velocity startup, has developed a revolutionary saliva-based test to change that. Unlike subjective methods, this test detects biomarkers in saliva, offering fast, reliable results right on the sidelines. By addressing undiagnosed concussions, it aims to reduce the risk of long-term conditions like chronic traumatic encephalopathy and dementia. Led by CEO Andrew Cordssen-David, inspired by his hockey experience, and co-founder Shazia Tanvir (PhD), HeadFirst is committed to protecting athletes' health both on and off the playing surface. With pilot studies underway, this groundbreaking technology is set to transform sports safety worldwide—fast, non-invasive, and highly accurate.
