🌟 Stepping into the new year, GHGSAT is reflecting on 2024: the milestones, innovations, and impact of our emissions monitoring technology as we press forward, empowering decision-makers with data to tackle greenhouse gas emissions. 2024 was a big year for our team! Three highlights from 2024 include: 🌍 Completed our evaluation process with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition program, allowing #GHGSat's data to be more widely available for U.S. federal agencies and federally funded researchers--the first high-resolution emissions data in the Earthdata portal! 🛰️ Revealed plans to near-double the size of our fleet of satellites by the end of 2026, so we can enable daily revisit times, alerting on #methane leaks in near-real time 🎯 Shared the first images from Vanguard, the world's first commerical satellite capable of pinpointing carbon dioxide emissions to the facility level, representing a leap forward for global #carbondioxide emissions monitoring 👉 In 2025, we will keep building on this momentum, working towards our goal of measuring #greenhousegas emissions at every industrial site, worldwide, every day! 👏 #GHGSAT2024Wrapped

Compared to facilities in other industries, landfills tend to emit more persistently. Across landfills that GHGSAT observes, our satellites detect at least one emission per site in approximately 70% of visits. 🛰️📊 As industry operators look to right-size solutions like landfill gas capture and commercialization, accurate data to track and quantify emissions is critical. 👉 Find more insights in our quarterly In Focus report: https://lnkd.in/gGkuaztX

"Continued methane mitigation at home, but particularly leading on accelerated mitigation abroad, is absolutely necessary. No momentum can be lost." 🎯 This week, the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee in the United Kingdom released a new report, "Methane, Keeping up the Momentum" which examines whether the UK is on track to achieve targets in the Global Methane Pledge, and its progress in reducing domestic methane emissions across sectors including fuel, agriculture, and waste management. GHGSAT UK Managing Director Dan Wicks contributed testimony to the inquiry, highlighting the current state of emissions data in the UK: the discrepancies between bottom-up estimates and direct measurements, government agency uptake, and how satellites fit into the ecosystem of emissions monitoring technologies. 🛰️ 📖 Check out the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gXgC9uYV #MethaneMitigation #ClimateAction #SatelliteMonitoring #GHGSat
