On February 20, 2024, Dominion GovLaw LLP attended Court on behalf of the Regional District of Nanaimo and obtained the maximum fines permitted under the Offence Act. The bylaw breaches related to an individual engaged by Ballard Fine Homes providing forged occupancy permits to homeowners, thereby causing those homeowners to occupy their respective homes without a valid occupancy permit. Mr. Ballard alleges that he had no knowledge of the forgeries until having been informed of them by the Regional District of Nanaimo. Sunny Uppal, the prosecutor for the Regional District Nanaimo, stated, “By allowing homeowners to occupy their respective homes without occupancy permits, Ballard Fine Homes and Darren Geaudrault exposed the public to a safety risk if not a theoretical safety risk.” https://lnkd.in/gXAhqhsF
