In the evolving landscape of architecture and construction, design teams are increasingly leveraging tall mass timber code provisions to expose the beauty and functionality of timber in innovative ways. With over 80% of current design projects utilizing these new provisions falling within the six- to twelve-story range, we’re witnessing a transformative shift towards sustainable, aesthetic, and resilient building practices. Mass timber is not just about structural integrity; it’s about enhancing the user experience through warm, natural materials that create inviting spaces. By maximizing timber exposure, architects and builders can craft environments that are not only visually stunning but also promote well-being and sustainability. Here at Cornerstone Timberframes, we’re at the forefront of this movement, collaborating with teams across Canada and the U.S. Our expertise in navigating the complexities of these codes enables us to unlock the full potential of timber in modern design. Are you considering mass timber for your next project? Let’s connect!

The employees at Maple Leaf Construction in Winnipeg, Manitoba are looking forward to experiencing their first winter in their new office space. Approximately 30 employees will enjoy this high-quality office space, which is being built for a leading highway and infrastructure company. Exposed wood walls, columns, and beams will be visible in all offices and common areas. The light-colored black spruce is cheerful and calming, helps to moderate indoor humidity levels, and provides uninterrupted attachment points for shelves, partition walls, and fixtures. Black duplex-coated steel connections are largely hidden within the timber, but where visible, they provide a nice visual counterpoint to the wood. Did you know that mass timber is a sustainable choice for energy efficiency? Its natural insulation properties help regulate indoor temperatures, reducing the need for heating and cooling systems. This not only lowers energy bills but also minimizes your carbon footprint! The carbon captured during the tree’s growth remains stored in the wood, making it an eco-friendly building material. Choose mass timber for a greener, more energy-efficient future!

We are beginning this snowy Monday with gratitude as we reflect fondly on our staff Christmas party! This gathering reminds us of our remarkable growth this year, the evolution of our culture, and the wonderful accomplishments we've achieved. It also highlights the dedication and passion of our exceptional team. Ultimately, it is the people who shape Cornerstone into what it is today, and for that, we are so thankful!

People living in Indigenous communities deserve safe, attractive, high-quality housing. A First Nation in NW Ontario sought to prioritize natural materials in their new homes to create inspiring and energy-efficient living spaces. A-frames are not just a relic of the 1960s; they are among the oldest housing forms built by societies worldwide. Their soaring living areas and abundant natural light create joyful environments for residents. To learn more about this important project: https://lnkd.in/etnpqZaS

This year's golf season may be complete in Manitoba, but this new mass timber clubhouse will be used and enjoyed by guests all-year round. The new clubhouse is a beautiful recovery following a calamity. The old timber frame clubhouse in Minnewasta was destroyed by a fire in November 2021. Construction began on a modern mass timber clubhouse, which was completed within a few months. The clubhouse is located on the edge of an escarpment and offers a spectacular 180-degree view over the course and the adjacent valley. The 160-seat dining area features floor-to-ceiling glass, and there are extensive patios and walkways that connect guests with the natural setting. The new timber structure, fabricated and installed by Cornerstone Timberframes, complements the clubhouse's aesthetic and contributes to the relaxing, stress-free atmosphere desired by the golf pro. Despite the extensive use of glass, the building design prioritizes sustainability, with a goal of reducing energy use by 58% compared to the previous clubhouse. Additionally, the mass timber structure sequesters 44.8 metric tonnes of CO2. https://lnkd.in/dZMkD3bj
