About us
The Coalition for Music Education in Canada is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to raising the awareness and understanding of the role that music plays in Canadian culture, and to advocate for the contribution that music education makes in the lives of all Canadians. It is the goal of the Coalition to see that the lives of all children are enriched by quality, developmental music programs through their schools. More than ever, music education is a vital contributor to the success of our children - both in school and in life. We need our young people to think and analyze, to question and innovate. We need them to work together in a spirit of collaboration and respect. Music helps us do all of these things. Music nourishes creativity, confidence, self-expression, intellectual development and more. Let’s ensure that we provide our children with the tools that will help them succeed in school and in life.

Big news! In 2025 we will launch a new annual Research Fellowship program. Administered by the Coalition’s Research Advisory Board, this Fellowship program aims to support exceptional young scholars and researchers enrolled in Canadian universities through the process of research/creation in the field of music education. Each year, we will release a Call for Proposals outlining the annual Research Objective drawn from the future research avenues outlined in our National Study published in 2021. Proposals will be evaluated by our esteemed Research Advisory Board. Details coming in January! #musiceducation #musiceducationresearch #research

Happy birthday to Neil Young. Neil knows that music has the power to unite us, and he has been writing protest songs since the 70s as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and as a solo artist. Ain’t singin’ for Miller Don’t sing for Bud I won’t sing for politicians Ain’t singin’ for Spuds This note’s for you (1988, This Note’s For You)

Happy birthday to FLEA! Flea is an American musician and actor, known as a founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In 2001, Michael “Flea” Balzary and Keith “Tree” Barry cofounded the Silverlake Conservatory of Music to combat declining #musiceducation in LA public schools.
