Badge of Life Canada is proud to recognize the incredible generosity of Phoenix Soap Company and their inspiring Rise From the Ashes Campaign, which donates 10% of every sale to Canadian charities supporting First Responders and their families living with PTSD.   The campaign was founded by Dave, a paramedic of 16 years, and his wife Liane after Dave's courageous journey through PTSD recovery. In 2023, after a particularly traumatic event, Dave found himself in a mental health crisis that led him to seek treatment. This pivotal moment inspired him to channel his recovery into creating a business and a campaign to support others facing similar struggles.   In 2024, the Rise From the Ashes Campaign raised an incredible $7268.23, helping make a difference in the lives of First Responders and their families across Canada.   As we move into 2025, we’re asking for your help to grow this impact. A heartbreaking series of events has deeply impacted the first responder community. The recent deaths by suicide of officers from the South Simcoe Police Service and the Central Saanich Police Service have left many mourning and struggling to comprehend the immense loss. These tragedies reach far and wide, affecting the South Simcoe Police Service, Central Saanich Police Service, Calgary Police Service, RCMP, Saanich Police, Victoria Police, Vancouver Police, their partner agencies, and the families of those involved. Everyone is hurting beyond measure. The ripple effects of these losses touch victims, families, and colleagues alike. We extend our deepest condolences to all those impacted. Please remember: reach out to those who care and to those you care about. No one should face this alone. Let us hold space for compassion, healing, and understanding as we support one another through this profoundly difficult time.

Badge of Life Canada is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Detective John Park from the Toronto Police Service’s Hold Up Squad. His sudden death due to suspected medical circumstances is a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, and colleagues. Detective Park leaves behind two young children, a loss that is devastating beyond words. Our thoughts and condolences are with his loved ones and the entire Toronto Police Service during this incredibly difficult time. Support for Families in the Corrections Community The loss of a first responder to suicide is a profound tragedy that impacts their surviving spouse and children—not just emotionally, but financially as well. In Ontario, surviving spouses of first responders who die by suicide due to workplace-related stress or trauma may be eligible for WSIB Survivor Benefits, even if there was no active WSIB claim at the time of their passing. These benefits are designed to provide both psychological and financial support to help families through this incredibly difficult time. If you’ve lost a loved one in the corrections community to suicide, we are here to support you.
