It is exciting to see that Nature has selected spatial proteomics as its 2024 Method of the Year! The latest Nature publication shines a spotlight on spatial proteomics techniques, offering insightful commentaries on the field, computational tools, current research applications, and the integration of spatial proteomics with other datasets. At Alimentiv, we are thrilled about the potential applications of spatial proteomics and spatial transcriptomics (Nature’s 2020 Method of the Year), especially in the context of #GI diseases. At #DDW 2024, we presented a poster demonstrating how histology enhances spatial transcriptomics datasets, uncovering cellular niches linked to histological inflammation (links in comments 🔗). Timely and accurate diagnosis and prognosis, frequent monitoring, and the prediction of the response to therapy are critical for effective Crohn’s disease management, but better diagnostic tools are needed. Delays in diagnosis, infrequent monitoring, and the lack of effective treatments often lead to severe complications as the disease progresses. Our Diagnostics focus area is dedicated to advancing the identification, development, and validation of better diagnostic tools to improve the lives of people living with Crohn’s disease. One common yet devastating complication of Crohn’s disease is a narrowing of the intestines, known as stricturing Crohn’s disease, that leads to bowel obstruction and the need for surgery. Currently, there is a lack of tools that are required to monitor strictures and for the clinical development of effective therapies for these patients. The Stenosis Therapy and Anti-Fibrotic Research (STAR) Consortium is a group of clinician researchers led by Drs. Florian Rieder, Brian Feagan, and JG Fletcher from Cleveland Clinic, Alimentiv, and Mayo Clinic, respectively. The consortium is focused on the development of diagnostic tools, including a patient-reported outcome measure and standard indices for non-invasive monitoring of strictures using MRI, CT imaging, and intestinal ultrasound to support the development of anti-fibrotic therapeutics in clinical trials to improve the care and treatment of people living with stricturing Crohn’s disease. Learn more about our Diagnostic strategy at the link in our bio. #CrohnsDisease #CCAwarenessWeek #IBD #STARConsortium
