About us

Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career. Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world. We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.

  • Congratulations to John, who recently received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! Here is an excerpt from the nomination: "John was my post-op nurse. He was very professional throughout the process, and he never left my side during the entire process. I was admitted overnight, and he made sure he not only took care of me but also kept my family fully informed of the status of the move. I told John that I was going to provide some feedback on his extraordinary service, and he kept trying to downplay his exceptional care. I think he not only "did his job", but he also went well beyond the norm and provided comfort and service that was truly extraordinary." Mayo Clinic is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse. If you know someone looking for a career in nursing, explore available opportunities today: https://mayocl.in/4gPe0Y6

  • For much of history, researchers have treated diseases by targeting the proteins involved, such as giving insulin for diabetes or statins for heart disease. Over the last couple of decades, however, they have pursued gene therapies that target disease at the level of the DNA, including developing drugs that correct the genetic defect in sickle-cell disease. More recently, researchers have been advancing treatments that go after the often-overlooked molecule RNA. To do so, many are harnessing a technology known as antisense oligonucleotides. • On Nov. 19, Mayo Clinic teams in Arizona worked around the clock to complete seven kidney transplants and three liver transplants. Transplant center colleagues rose to the challenge with one goal in mind: Saving as many lives as possible, says Bashar Aqel, M.D., director of Mayo Clinic Transplant Center in Arizona. Julia and John Churan were part of that day, which set a record for both the hospital and the state of Arizona. "I would not be here without Mayo Clinic," John says. "I am so grateful for the care I have received and the incredible gift my wife has given me." Learn more about this record-setting day: https://mayocl.in/41KlfMW

  • What if technology could help healthcare providers spend more time with patients and less time on paperwork? "I didn't go into healthcare for the love of paperwork,” says Anjali Bhagra, M.D., medical director of Automation and Equity, Inclusion and Diversity at Mayo Clinic. “We've got to eliminate what robs us of joy in our workplace." Intelligent automation thoughtfully applies artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to streamline repetitive tasks, giving staff more time to do what matters most — delivering exceptional patient care. Mayo Clinic leaders and staff are turning knowledge and insights into action to transform healthcare for all. #HealthcareInnovation #IntelligentAutomation #PatientCare #DigitalHealth

  • In his 5 years, Arthur has lived much of his life in the hospital because of terminal cancer. That's where he met Kevin Pike, a security ambassador at Mayo Clinic, who ignited a passion for Pokémon in Arthur. So much so that Arthur, with Kevin's help and that of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, went on to throw a party for friends at the Mayo Clinic Children's Center. As is often the case with those affected by cancer, people focus on how sad and unfair it is. Arthur's mom, Freya, wants to help change that. "I want to focus on how much fun we're having and the people we've met," she says. "Mayo Clinic Children’s Center has helped us buy this time we're using to make memories."
