From the President's blog: "On the morning of December 10th, I appeared on a program on Nikkei CNBC, a channel that specializes in market and economic news. I spoke in general about the interim financial results for Fiscal Year 2024 and the revised full-year earnings forecast that we announced in November, as well as some of our company's current initiatives and future business development. Trying to communicate the enormous range of Sumitomo Electric's business activities in just 20 minutes was quite a challenge..." Continue reading: https://lnkd.in/eJb2ffzm

As cars become more sophisticated in their autonomous driving features, the sensors that support these features will generate an enormous amount of data to be processed inside the vehicle. The resulting data communication requirements may exceed what conventional wiring harnesses can handle, and so harnesses based on optical fibers are now being investigated for their potential. Sumitomo Electric Industries recently led an initiative to develop an international standard for automotive optical harnesses. This new standard spells out the general requirements and test methods for various components in optical harnesses to ensure stable, high-speed data communications even in harsh conditions. It is hoped that the standard will accelerate the development of optical harnesses as well as the systems that rely on them. In the Philippines, a project to install high-voltage submarine power cable between Cebu and Bohol Island, spanning 27 km, was recently completed by Sumitomo Electric Industries. The project was initiated by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to address the growing need for electricity due to a surge in tourism to Bohol and to enhance the overall reliability of the region's power grid. Sumitomo Electric was responsible for the design, manufacturing, and installation of the system, which was developed around 230 kV AC cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cable. Despite the highly challenging nature of deep sea installation, work was successfully completed on schedule. Press release: https://lnkd.in/eXhksqk5 Connect with Innovation | Sumitomo Electric
