At Pascal we specialize in air lubrication solutions to increase the energy efficiency for boats and ships. We work with AirHull technology for smaller planing vessels, a proven, fuel-agnostic technology that delivers up to 50% reduction in energy consumption. We have developed and built full-scale electric concept vessels together with partners demonstrating the technology. AirHull is suitable for all planing vessels with various applications. We are also advancing Air Lubrication Solutions for ships. Existing systems often struggle to optimize airflow under various sea conditions and we see significant potential in using control systems for optimizing performance. This is set to shorten the payback time for Air Lubrication installations. The core of our offering is the control system that can be fitted, and retrofitted, to existing Air Lubrication Systems.

For air lubrication to deliver real benefits, it must be designed correctly and operated optimally. Air Lubrication Systems (ALS) can reduce water friction for ships of all sizes. However, designing the system correctly is important. This includes sizing compressors correctly, optimizing nozzle placement, and ensuring the system can adapt to various operating conditions. The control system must dynamically adjust compressor speed and manage nozzle activation to accommodate variations in speed, trim, draft, and weather conditions. Equally important is how the system is used, whether the ALS is used as speed boost or fuel saving. Clarksons Research from Juni 2024 states that more than 490 ships have been fitted with Air Lubrication Systems (ALS), or have ALS on order.
