Several weather extremes have been witnessed worldwide in recent years, and global warming has exacerbated these extremes. The 1.5°C target, established by the Paris Agreement, is slipping out of reach as global emissions continue to rise. Exceeding 1.5°C could trigger tipping points with lasting impacts for centuries, including devastating consequences for low-lying island nations and global ecosystems. One of the major tipping points is the melting of Greenland and Antarctica's ice sheets. Mountains are the water towers of the world.
