"This experience taught me a profound lesson: sometimes, despite the best intentions and all the legal safeguards in place, it’s impossible to help someone in the way they need. The legal system cannot always offer the relief people seek, especially when circumstances and evidence point in a different direction. While empathy fuels the desire to help, justice requires impartiality and adherence to the law." Writes Nimisha B. as she explored the lessons she learnt while practising before the Consumer Forum in her city. Trauma-informed design and security measures must be approached holistically. This involves the design of Court spaces considering both physical and psychological safety of all Vulnerable Witnesses including children, Persons with Disabilities and elderly persons. Designing spaces that feel open, inviting, and non-threatening and non-confrontational while ensuring that security measures are discreet and unobtrusive helps strike this balance. "The Constitution was created by flesh-and-blood human beings, put into operation by flesh-and-blood human beings, and its interpretation debated by flesh-and-blood human beings. It was not handed down to us, it was not forced on us, and it was not mindlessly adopted from somewhere else. It is three things: a reflection of the long freedom struggle, a charter for India's future, and an operating manual to help India survive difficult times." Alok Prasanna Kumar, co-founder of Vidhi, writes for the Deccan Herald in his article, "Let's debate the Constitution, not deify it."
