  • What is spirituality? Is there a difference between being religious, and simply being spiritual? At the beginning of the 8th chapter of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna asks Bhagavan some piercing questions as to the nature of spirituality, which leads Sri Krishna to expound on several concepts from the Upanishads. Sri Krishna has said, “स्वभावोऽध्यात्ममुच्यते”. That a person’s svabhava is their 𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘢. The word 𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘢 is often translated into English as ‘spirituality’.  A deeper introspection into the Sanskrit term reveals that it is composed of the words ‘𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘪’, meaning ‘to be the best of ’, and ‘𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘢’ meaning ‘soul’, or ‘self’. While in 𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘬𝘵𝘢 (religiousness), we are still working to achieve something, when we achieve 𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘢, we have become what we have aspired to be. In such a state, our inherent nature, or our 𝘴𝘷𝘢𝘣𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘢, is the same as that of our 𝘐𝘴𝘩𝘵𝘢, the object of our worship. Such a pinnacle of development, the culmination of perfecting our own nature through diligent nurture, is 𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘢. It is when we become what we believe in, that we are truly spiritual– 𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘪𝘬. उदारा: सर्व एवैते ज्ञानी त्वात्मैव मे मतम् | आस्थित: स हि युक्तात्मा मामेवानुत्तमां गतिम् || (7.18) “All those who are devoted to Me are indeed noble. But those in knowledge, who are of steadfast mind, whose intellect is merged in Me, and who have made Me alone as their supreme goal, I consider as My very self.”

  • How can someone leading the life of a householder experience the bliss of a spiritual life? Is it true that only those who have left behind the trappings of the ‘material world’ and gone into ‘Sannyas’ can experience God? Sri Krishna says that a Yogi is not someone who gives up on their work and their responsibilities. Being idle is not the sign of a Sannyasi. A Sannyasi is someone who does their work while remaining detached. Leading a family life itself can be a great act of renunciation. Being a householder, one is required to do many things that they may not want to do. One has to balance the needs of their family with their own spiritual ambitions. Thus, the greatest Sadhana a householder can do is to transform each and every action into an act of Sadhana. When eating food, we can think of it as a Yagna. Each morsel of food can become an offering to the sacred fire, Vaishvanara burning within us. When we bathe, we can think of it as an Abhishekam of the divinity that resides in our bodies. Our growth in the path of Sadhana then becomes exponential, because each act we undertake is dedicated to the divine.

  • We often wonder if we should give up our desires, dreams, and ambitions. Should we renounce the outcome of our actions (karma)? What is the take of Srimad Bhagavada Gita on this? Sri Krishna says that life is unpredictable. There’s no way to guarantee the outcome we want. In the universe's randomness, some unknown factor can always go wrong. What to do then? In five sentences, Om Swami summarises the core philosophy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita—the song of God. Five Life Lessons from Srimad Bhagavad Gita 1.  Life is unfair. It has its own plan. 2.  Life will not go according to you. Adapt. 3.  Life is not just about YOU. Accept it. 4.  You can shape about 90% of your life the way you want. 5.  Change your perspective. That's the key to happiness. These are the five notes you’ll need, my friend, to learn to sing the song of life joyfully!

  • अर्जुन उवाच एवं सततयुक्ता ये भक्तास्त्वां पर्युपासते । ये चाप्यक्षरमव्यक्तं तेषां के योगवित्तमा: ॥ (12:1) “Between those who are steadfastly devoted to Your personal form and those who worship the formless Brahman, whom do You consider to be more perfect in Yog?” One of the greatest warriors known to humankind, Arjuna’s prowess with the Gandiva and arrows was well known. Perhaps even more piercing than his arrows were his questions to Sri Bhagawan. Even after receiving the Vishwaroop Darshan of Sri Krishna, Arjuna’s mind was not at peace.  A close friend and childhood associate of Sri Krishna, Arjuna asked Bhagawan whether it was more appropriate to worship Him as Impersonal Brahman, or as His devotee. Ever patient, ever merciful, Sri Krishna Bhagwan replied to Arjuna’s question.  मय्यावेश्य मनो ये मां नित्ययुक्ता उपासते | श्रद्धया परयोपेतास्ते मे युक्ततमा मता: || (12:2) “Those who fix their minds on Me and always engage in My devotion with steadfast faith, I consider them to be the best yogis.”

“Stories That Must Be Told” I had the honor of meeting Abhishek Agarwal a visionary behind The Kashmir Files. This film is more than just a cinematic masterpiece—it is a voice for the voiceless and a tribute to the resilience of those whose stories have been overlooked for far too long. The movie touched me deeply and moved me in ways that words cannot capture. Thank you, Abhishek ji, for playing such a pivotal role in telling stories that matter—stories that the world needs to hear.
