    We are honored to celebrate Dr. Vandana Gopikumar from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as the 2024 recipient of the Sat Paul Mittal National Award - Platinum in the Individual Category. As co-founder of The Banyan and BALM, Dr. Gopikumar has transformed mental health care, impacting over 4,230 homeless individuals, establishing 138 homes across South Asia, and enrolling 10,315 people in the NALAM community program.     We are pleased to announce an endowment for The Banyan's Home Again program that focuses on building an inclusive community. The event, “Hope, Home, and Health: Building Inclusive Communities and Futures”, held in Chennai on November 15, marked a celebration of impactful collaboration and a renewed commitment to fostering dignity, autonomy and inclusion for persons with psychosocial disability. Shweta Rawat, Managing Director, RIST formally announce the endowment, lending her support and sharing plans to expand the Home Again program nationally. The RIST endowment plays a crucial role in ensuring the program's financial stability, allowing The Banyan team to remain focused on its core mission of empowering individuals through innovative community housing and mental health interventions.

  • Communications Manager Position Overview The Communications Manager will lead strategic communications efforts to amplify The Banyan's mission of providing comprehensive mental healthcare and support to homeless individuals with mental health conditions across India. Key Responsibilities and Competencies *Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities and programs *Create compelling narratives around The Banyan's initiatives *Craft messaging that effectively communicates complex mental health and social justice issues to diverse stakeholders *Support advocacy efforts for mental health policy and systemic change *Create annual reports, impact stories, and program updates for donors, partners, and stakeholders *Document success stories and case studies from various programs (ECRCs, Home Again, NALAM) *Develop content for multiple platforms including website, social media, newsletters, and print materials *Ensure consistent organizational voice and messaging across all communications *Manage communications with diverse stakeholders including: Government partners (National Health Mission, state governments), Donors (Azim Premji Foundation, Infosys Foundation, etc.), Academic partners (BALM, Madras School of Social Work), Community organizations and implementation partners, Service users and their families *Develop press releases and media relationships *Coordinate public events and campaigns to raise awareness about mental health and homelessness *Support the organization's thought leadership initiatives *Manage crisis communications when needed Required Qualifications and Competencies *Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field *Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, preferably in non-profit/social sector *Demonstrated experience in mental health or public health communications preferred *Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English *Proficiency in relevant regional languages (Tamil preferred) *Strong storytelling abilities with sensitivity to mental health narratives *Experience with digital communications and social media management *Understanding of public health and social justice frameworks *Proficiency in communication tools and software *Deep commitment to mental health advocacy and social justice *Sensitivity in handling stories of vulnerable populations *Strong ethical judgment and understanding of privacy concerns *Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment *Cultural competency and awareness Interested candidates may send your resume, cover letter, and references to hr@thebanyan.org.     Senior Program Director – ECRC The Emergency Care and Recovery Centre (ECRC) approach is a coordinated, collaborative, and multidisciplinary care system that offers homeless people with mental health conditions the opportunity to determine their pathways back into the community. Position Overview We seek a dynamic Senior Program Director to lead the ECRC intervention across all implementation sites. This role requires strategic leadership in scaling the program, maintaining implementation quality across diverse settings, and managing complex stakeholder relationships at state and district levels. Responsibilities *Provide direct oversight of The Banyan's four ECRC facilities and drive innovation and model development through these flagship centers *Direct the overall vision and strategy for ECRC implementation across multiple districts and states *Establish best practices that can be adapted across other implementation models *Lead partnerships with National Health Mission, District Hospitals, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders *Oversee the selection and onboarding of new implementation partners *Guide the development and execution of capacity building programs for partner organizations *Ensure fidelity to ECRC's core approach while adapting to district-specific needs *Drive continuous improvement through monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems *Establish and maintain quality standards across all ECRC sites *Oversee the design and implementation of review systems and quality audits *Lead knowledge transfer and capacity building initiatives across the network *Guide complex case management and development of district-specific intervention strategies *Manage relationships with government stakeholders and funding partners *Direct resource allocation and utilization across sites *Lead documentation and reporting of program outcomes Required Qualifications and Competencies *Advanced degree in Mental Health, Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies or related field *Minimum 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in senior program management *Proven track record in scaling social interventions *Background in health care systems *Experience in managing public-private partnerships *Demonstrated success in capacity building and knowledge transfer *Experience in stakeholder management at government and institutional levels *Experience in building and mentoring teams across multiple locations *Strong change management and problem-solving capabilities *Ability to manage different operational approaches while maintaining program quality and core values across diverse settings.
