About us

TARSHI (Talking About Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues) works towards expanding sexual and reproductive choices in people’s lives in an effort to enable them to enjoy freedom from fear, infection and reproductive and sexual health problems. TARSHI’s work on sexuality is from an affirmative and rights based perspective, a fresh change from perspectives that often restrict sexuality within a disease prevention, violence against women, or sexual minorities framework. TARSHI is a registered NGO based in New Delhi, India founded in 1996 and registered under the Societies Registration Act in 1997. All donations to TARSHI are exempt from tax under section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act, Government of India.

  • Each time a child or adolescent asks a question that may be (even indirectly) related to sexuality, many parents and teachers get squirmy and nervous. This may be because they themselves do not have the information required, but in most cases, it has more to do with the ‘hush-hush’ that surrounds sexuality. We are taught shame at an early age, and we then transmit it on. The December 2024 issue of In Plainspeak explores Comprehensive Sexuality Education from the perspective of parents and teachers. 1. In an interview with Shikha Aleya, Ketaki Chowkhani, author of The Limits of Sexuality Education, offers us the refreshing possibilities of the erotics of sexuality education. 2. Antara Buzarbaruah makes a compelling case for the significance and relevance of CSE and PSE and why it is not ‘only’ for children, and how parents and teachers also need to be educated. 3. Ayesha Khaliq and Nandhini Jaishankar explore the experiences and challenges that sexuality educators face while navigating conversations on sexuality with young people and the strategies they use to address changing and disparate needs. 4. ElsaMarie D’Silva recommends Neha Bhat’s Unashamed: Notes from the Diary of a Sex Therapist as an essential tool for those seeking to educate, understand, and embrace the many facets of human sexuality. 5. Sahana G writes about her mother and her 8-year-old self, about how each of them grew up in a Bangalore that was transforming in different ways, each generation pushing against the boundaries inherited from the last. 6. Aradhana writes wryly about the annual sex ed workshop at a school through grades 7, 8, and 9 where what they are taught is far less than what they already know, and none of their questions are answered. 7. Taarina Therese Chandiramani’s story is a heartwarming illustration of what happens when a teacher does not lecture or shame children when it comes to CSE but “gives them words when they have none.” 8. Drawing us into the river landscape of a dream, Abishek Philip delicately uncovers the complex relationship between social conditioning, emotional vulnerability, and intimacy. 9.

साइन-अप करें और यहाँ कोर्स के बारे में अधिक जानें - https://linktr.ee/tarshi An exciting announcement is here! TARSHI has developed a new course in HINDI on stress management and burnout prevention, especially for those working in the social sector. Stress and burnout are important topics that usually take a back seat with grassroots activists and human rights defenders working with marginalised communities. People working within the social sector are often exposed to trauma, distressing situations, complex challenges and even criticism from the communities they cater to and, at times, their allies. The course is designed to help bring awareness to Hindi-speaking grassroots NGO workers about stress, burnout, and their unique causes of stress. The course also offers self-care and collective care strategies to use in personal and professional settings. So what are you waiting for? • United Nations Human Rights #InternationalHumanRightsDay is observed every year on 10th December as a reminder of the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every individual, regardless of race, gender, nationality, or background. One of the fundamental human rights is our right to health including SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) TARSHI recognises that we need to advocate for spaces where we get access to information and services for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights without any stigma or taboo. Our work focuses on information dissemination, capacity and perspective strengthening and creating conversations platforms to advance people’s wellbeing and their agency over their sexuality and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. By adopting a rights-based approach to sexuality and sexual wellbeing we recognise each individual’s right to health and bodily autonomy. #OurRightsOurFuture #HumanRightsDay #SRHR #ReproductiveJustice #SISA #SafeSpaces #ReproductiveRights #Relationships #OurRights #Freedom #Dignity #HumanRights #SRHRAdvocacy #Advocacy #FundamentalRights #LGBT #QueerRights #Social Justice #Feminist #Feminism #IntersectionalFeminism #BodilyAutonomy #Advocacy #Health

  • #FeministFridays Posted with @regram @priklut Consent is more than just saying "yes" or "no." It's about understanding, respect, and making sure everyone involved feels safe and comfortable. In many cultures, talking openly about intimacy isn’t always easy. Hence, we need to create Safe, Inclusive and Self-Affirming (SISA) spaces for each one of us to communicate our needs freely without any judgment. Also, consent is not a one-time thing or something that can be assumed. It's not about reading between the lines or making guesses. It’s about checking in with each other—every step of the way and respecting one’s boundaries.  To know more about consent, check out TARSHI’s FAQs on “Our Rights”: https://lnkd.in/eX89qa2D #Consent #Respect #Communication #HealthyRelationships #Boundaries #Education #Awareness #Youth #Safety #SexualHealth #OnlineSafety #feminism #Intersectionality #IntersectionalFeminism #SRHR #Gender #CSE #Wellbeing #Relationships #Dating #SISA #SafeSpaces #Safety #Rights

  • In the latest addition to In Plainspeak’s micro-series Quick Bytes, based on short responses to cue questions, we continue to connect our readers and writers to each other in as many different ways as possible. Our intention is to expand the space of safety, inclusion, and a self-affirming approach, that illuminates the wealth of diversity, and possibilities, that we represent together. Natasha Chandhock gives us Quick Bytes on Gender and Sexuality. Taash / Natasha (they/she) is a self-taught mixed/multimedia art practitioner whose work ranges from utilitarian, handcrafted art to art positioned at the juncture of gender, disability and design justice. They identify as genderqueer and are multiply disabled. The principles of speculative and discursive design practices influence their work, primarily through object stories and narrativisation. #InPlainspeak #gender #disability #art #queerness #Sexuality #QuickBytes
