At Smile Foundation, we believe Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) are the first mile in creating lasting change. These grassroots organizations, with their deep community connections, are essential in addressing education, healthcare, and livelihood challenges. The 4th edition of Smile Foundation’s Colloquium brought together corporate leaders, panelists, and change-makers to discuss the need to empower grassroots organizations through capacity-building, partnerships, and resource integration, aligning with Smile Foundation’s mission to build resilient communities. Our Empowering Grassroots initiative, in partnership with the Change the Game Academy since 2007, has been at the forefront of enhancing grassroots capacities across 15 countries, with Smile Foundation serving as the nodal partner for Asia. This initiative enables CBOs to drive meaningful impact and ensures their efforts are amplified through collaborations with corporates, CSOs, and governments. With a lifecycle approach focused on Aspirational Districts and Blocks, Smile Foundation strives to converge resources, expertise, and people, contributing inclusively to the vision of Viksit Bharat. Farmers and their families from some of the remotest villages in Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu, receive free healthcare services right at their doorsteps through Smile Foundation's #SmileOnWheels programme. Working as daily wage earners and marginal farmers, these villagers toil relentlessly to feed their families, often neglecting their health needs. The Smile on Wheels project reaches out to remote villages in the district with essential health services, including OPD sessions, diagnostics, medicine distribution, and referral services. In addition, health counseling and awareness sessions on various preventable diseases are regularly conducted for the families. Building Stronger Communities through Local Fundraising Training in Konark, Odisha As part of Smile Foundation's Empowering Grassroots Programme, in partnership with Change the Game Academy, a 6-day Local Fundraising (LFR) training was held in Konark, Odisha. Participants from five states joined this hands-on learning experience focused on building skills, knowledge, and the right mindset for effective resource mobilization. Key topics included donor profiling, fundraising planning, team building, proposal writing, and digital fundraising. Participants also learned communication skills and strategies for building partnerships with donors. The training helped community leaders create action plans and develop sustainable fundraising strategies. With continued support, these grassroots organizations are now better prepared to tackle challenges in their communities.
