SKAN is a public charitable trust set up for Medical research by the Soota and Karedan families.

About us

SKAN is a not-for-profit medical research trust, started on April 5, 2021, in Bengaluru, India. SKAN is engaged with research on Ageing and Neurological areas. SKAN’s areas of expertise include gut-microbiome, stem cells, human genetics, molecular biology and bio-informatics. SKAN has created an eco-system for projects in collaboration with reputed global and domestic partners and consortium members. The partners include University of Cambridge, Quadram Institute Bioscience, Narayana Health, IIT Roorkee, St. John’s (National Academy of Health Sciences),Centre for Brain Research, Trans-disciplinary University, NIMHANS and S-VYASA. Projects have already been initiated to understand the role of DNA mutations and clonal expansions in liver disease and neurological disorders in India using liver derived stem cells, comparative microbiome studies to understand the role of gut microbiome in Parkinson’s disease and understanding the process of healthy aging. SKAN is also leading a multi institutional long-term cohort to understand factors affecting the incidence of heart attack and stroke. SKAN’s vision is to work on the frontier’s of science to transform the future of medicine and impact millions of lives.
