About us

IISER Tirupati is the sixth Institute in the chain of IISERs established by the Govt. of India under the Ministry of Education for imparting quality education in basic sciences and for setting up state-of-the-art research facilities for frontline and cutting-edge research in science. Academic activity at IISER Tirupati commenced in August 2015 IISER hosts cutting-edge level R&D work in Chemistry, Biology and Physics departments The broad areas of research in each department include the following: Biology: Biophysics, Neuroscience, Plant biology, Ecology and evolution, Cancer biology & Immunology, Chemical Biology, Nano-Biotechnology, Proteomics and Infectious disease.   • A collaborative effort anchored at the newly formed Tirupati Nature Society that includes citizens, IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, Krea and IIIT have successfully completed the First Pulicat Bird Atlas, conducted over three days from the 21st to the 23rd of December 2024.This marks the first implementation of the Atlas protocol that we fine-tuned with Tirupati Bird Atlas in a wetland ecosystem. This is the first systematic bird assessment covering large parts of the entire Pulicat Lake - India’s second largest brackish water lagoon, and an important stop-over site in the global migratory flyways of birds. The event was both productive and enjoyable, with active participation and collaboration making it truly memorable. Here are some key highlights: Bird experts from outside Pulicat: 40 Local participants and Forest Department staff: 80 Total effort: ~720 hours Checklists submitted: ~240 Bird species recorded: ~186 . The main coordination was done by Hareesha AS from IISER Tirupati, with support from Vinod Sachin (IISER & TNS) and Avinash at Sri City. Ministry of Education

  • The two day undergraduate conference organised by the Department of biology BS MS students ended today. The event witnessed more than 300 participants from all over the nation with power packed talks and panel discussions by eminent speakers from leading institutes across nation. The talks were followed by student talks and poster presentations, which gave us the opportunity to explore many other different facets of biosciences. Finally, a panel discussion for undergraduate research in India, where all the seven speakers shared their invaluable experience and insights. The event was formally inaugurated by the Director Prof Santanu Bhattacharya and Registrar Prof Vijayalohanan Pillai. During his talk Prof Santanu Bhattacharya mentioned that these conferences will be game changer for undergraduate research in India. Ministry of Education

  • The first National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Bioscience (NCURB), by the Biology Department of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati as an endeavour to offer undergraduate students the opportunity to present their work and share it with the scientific community. The two day conference, organized by the undergraduates and faculty from the Biology Department of the institute, on 16th and 17th December on IISER Tirupati campus. NCURB seeks to inspire young minds into research and innovation in the field of biology and its allied branches, including interdisciplinary areas. The conference includes sessions on oral presentations and poster sessions. Undergraduate researchers across India will present their innovative research findings in the form of talks and poster presentation sessions. Apart from these sessions, there are plenary talks by renowned researchers across India, sharing their breakthroughs in biosciences and also exploring career opportunities. The panel discussions is designed to provide a platform for interactions, to build on research skills and make dialogue on the future of science and innovation. The Director of IISER Tirupati, Prof. Santanu Bhattacharya emphasized the importance of the conference in his inaugural address : "This event is a game-changer for undergraduate research in India, as it brings young researchers and mentors on one platform. It fosters collaboration, promotes knowledge sharing, and inspires the next generation of biologists. With 6 guest speakers, 21 student talks, and over 315 participants from leading institutions all over India, NCURB is geared to set a benchmark for undergraduate research conferences for biosciences in our country. This will be an exclusive event where students get the opportunities to interact with esteemed speakers and also gain recognition for their work in biosciences.Ministry of Education
