Give.do is in conversation with Leena Kejriwal of Missing Link Trust, an organization that works toward the prevention of human trafficking and forced prostitution. The NGO was founded in 2014 in response to the increasing incidents of girls going missing and ultimately being forced into prostitution in red-light districts. Its founder is Leena Kejriwal, an artist who used her craft to raise awareness about these disturbing crimes against girls. Missing Link Trust runs a prevention program in more than 600 schools and has educated over 1.75 lakh children on how to identify traffickers and keep themselves and their friends safe. In Varanasi’s harsh winters, many abandoned elderly mothers are left to endure the cold with nothing but a fragile shed of hay to shelter them. Without thermals, survival becomes an everyday struggle. Maitri is on a mission to protect these vulnerable women, offering warmth, care, and dignity. This winter, let’s wrap them in comfort and hope. Donate now to make a difference here - https://lnkd.in/g93pUS8c

For years, stereotypes have misrepresented tribal communities as primitive and uncivilized, overshadowing their true legacy as the guardians of India’s forests. Their rich traditions, resilience, and deep knowledge of nature deserve celebration, not stereotypes. Waatavaran empowers tribal families with sustainable livelihoods, helping them reclaim their dignity and break free from exploitation. Support them here - https://lnkd.in/gFAq9bUm

Atchayam Trust was born out of a chance encounter that the founder had with a homeless man at a bus stand who had been abandoned by his family. Unable to shake the image of that man out of his mind, P. Naveenkumar founded Atchayam Trust to rescue, shelter, feed, care for, and empower homeless people and prevent begging. Begging, he shares, is a desperate plea for mercy which we should respond to by aiming to not merely satisfy a homeless person's immediate needs but also make a sustainable and long-term positive impact in their lives. Tulasi Gowda, a remarkable environmentalist from the Halakki tribe in Karnataka, dedicated her life to nurturing the environment. She passed away recently at the age of 86. As a member of the Karnataka Forest Department, she planted and cared for over 30,000 trees, earning her the revered title of "Vruksha Devata" – the Goddess of Trees. Her deep knowledge of local flora and unwavering commitment to conservation inspired generations. Recognized for her extraordinary contributions, she was honored with the Padma Shri in 2021. Our unity amidst our diversity is to be celebrated and this is what International Human Solidarity Day is all about. Celebrated by the UN each December 20th, we look at 5 groups of people: tribals, child laborers, trafficked girls, homeless people, and individuals with neurodivergent disabilities. These groups are often overlooked and disadvantaged and in this blog, we examine how 5 groundbreaking NGOs are working hard to break the stigma against them and empower individuals to have more equality and opportunities.
