Together we all lost ₹11,000 crore. Yup, that's the amount Indians lost to cyber scams in first 9 months of 2024 alone. And the shocking this is - number is still growing. One core problem to this dangerous situation is AWARENESS. 1. Majority of people are still unaware of these scams and fall into the trap. 2. Victims who lose money don't tend speak up because of many reasons including being shamed or looked down upon. How do I know this? I myself lost Rs 50,000 in the January of this year. When my immediate circle got to know this, their first reactions were mostly "Didn't you realize it was a scam?", "How can you be so ignorant?", "You should have been careful" With all the extremely generous feedback, I didn't speak about it. Recently something happened that changed my mind entirely. One of my elder cousin, who is top CXO in major pharmaceutical company visited our house. He was a man of pure confidence and it was so evident in the way he spoke and carried himself. However, on that day, he was very mellow, lost so much weight and looked very lost. I couldn't hold myself and asked if everything was okay. Initially he didn't say anything. Few minutes into our casual conversation, his wife opened saying they lost Rs 85 Lakh as part of DIGITAL ARREST SCAM. His entire life savings were wiped off. His son was about to go US for masters, they needed to show balance in their bank and everything went into jeopardy. I was irritated with two sets of people 1. Scamsters who continued to loot every single day 2. People like who have the power of voice, reach but staying silent. I decided to act. Just around that time I came across Razorpreneur - the content creation challenge by Bombay Shaving Company (Shantanu Deshpande). The razorpreneur gave me the much needed nudge via gamification. Something I really enjoy. With help from Medha Sravani, I started making short videos to raise awareness of these scams through the channel "Scam Safe India". https://lnkd.in/gUYeYQut The presentation is yet to be polished.
