The future of Indian IT is being reshaped by the surge in demand for AI skills, with experts predicting significant shifts in hiring strategies and compensation. Pareekh Jain, CEO of Pareekh Consulting, estimates that AI-related hires will rise from 10% last year to 20-25% this year, with freshers in AI-focused roles expected to dominate hiring expansions. Krishna Vij, VP at TeamLease Digital, highlights AI's role in boosting productivity and creating specialized roles, noting that "organizations are likely to focus on upskilling talent to balance costs." The trend is echoed by Mrinal Rai, ISG (Information Services Group), who acknowledges the fierce competition between service providers and GCCs offering higher packages and better roles for freshers. Pinkesh Kotecha, CMD of Ishan Technologies, predicts a 10-15% salary bump for freshers and up to 15% for experienced professionals, emphasizing the need for regular upskilling. With companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, and HCLTech aiming to onboard over 75,000 freshers this fiscal year, and AI projected to create 2.73 million tech roles by 2028, Indian IT is on the brink of transformation. Italy’s (The Italian Data Protection Authority), Garante, has imposed a €15.58 million fine on OpenAI, citing violations of GDPR in ChatGPT’s handling of personal data. According to Garante, OpenAI lacked a legal basis for processing user data, failed to ensure transparency, and did not implement effective age verification measures to protect children under 13. “This decision underscores the importance of accountability in AI,” said Garante, emphasizing that companies must adhere to privacy laws while innovating. The fine follows a temporary ban on ChatGPT in 2023, which was lifted after OpenAI introduced features like allowing users to opt out of data usage for algorithm training. However, the watchdog remained unconvinced about the company’s transparency efforts. In 2024, India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) redefined the country’s image from a back-office hub to an innovation powerhouse. Karnataka’s first GCC policy, announced at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, aims to train 1 lakh professionals in a year, with the state hosting 875 GCCs, contributing $22.2 billion annually, and targeting 1,000 GCCs by 2029. Cities like Hyderabad, Pune, and tier-II hubs are also emerging as GCC hotspots. With 70% of GCCs adopting generative AI, the sector is driving advancements in AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity while offering significantly higher salaries than IT firms. 2024 also saw a rise in women leaders in GCCs, signaling progress in diversity and inclusion. With a projected 2,400 GCCs by 2030, India is cementing its position as a global leader in AI innovation and tech transformation.
