The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was an attack plane in service between 1946 and the late 1970s. Originally it was designated "BT2D", then "AD" in 1946 until the tri-service designation system of 1963, when it became the "A-1". It was often named "Able Dog", "Spad" or "Sandy".
