History[edit]
The Beginning (2012)[edit]
SK Telecom T1 made their debut at IEM Cologne in 2012, with Reapered, H0R0, MighTiLy, UandME and StarLast securing the title for the Korean team with a 2-1 victory against Fnatic. This team then split up into SK Telecom T1 K and SK Telecom T1 S.

SKT T1 Dynasty (2015-2017)[edit]
The two teams were merged ahead of 2015 to form a line-up of MaRin, Bengi, T0M, Faker, Easyhoon, Bang, Wolf and Piccaboo. This team looked like a top challenger right away, winning the LCK 2015 Spring Split, before placing 2nd at MSI 2015. After their LCK 2015 Summer Split championship, SKT won their second World Championship (first as the merged team), beating countrymates KOO Tigers 3-1 in the finals.
From here on, SK Telecom T1 won 3 titles back to back, the IEM Season X World Championship, LCK 2016 Spring Split and MSI 2016, with KT Rolster breaking their streak by taking them out 3-2 in the LCK 2016 Summer Semi-Finals. Despite this, Worlds 2016 was won by SKT, making them the first team to win back-to-back titles. This performance seemed to carry on in 2017, with them winning Spring 2017 and MSI 2017, but they lost in the LCK 2017 Summer finals against Longzhu Gaming, with Samsung Galaxy taking away their Worlds 2017 title.
Slumps and Struggles (2018-2021)[edit]
저희 SKT T1은 부진은 있어도 몰락은 없습니다.
[ Us, SKT T1, we may falter, but we never fail. ]
In Spring 2018, Untara and Blank joined the team as starting players. This resulted in the team placing 4th and making more changes heading into Summer: Thal replaced Untara, Pirean joined as secondary midlaner, while Effort replaced Wolf permanently. This is when SK Telecom T1 missed out on playoffs, placing 7th in the regular season. It eventually resulted in them failing to qualify for Worlds too, with a 2-3 loss against Gen.G Esports in the Regional Finals.
After the disappointing results, SK Telecom T1 rebuilt their team heading into 2019. Khan joining as a toplaner, Clid joining as a jungler, Teddy joining from Jin Air Green Wings as the new AD Carry and Mata joining the team from rivals KT Rolster. This resulted in several titles throughout the year, with them winning the LCK 2019 Spring Split and LCK 2019 Summer Split, but coming short at the international events, exiting both in 3-4th place. This resulted in another rebuild heading into 2020, with Roach, Cuzz and Effort joining the starting line-up. They won the LCK 2020 Spring Split, but placed 5th in Summer and failed to qualify for Worlds 2020 following a Regional Finals loss against Gen.G Esports.
Trying to build on the young roster, T1 managed to sign Ryu "Keria" Min-seok who had just been released from DRX, who would be replacing Effort who ended up leaving for SANDBOX Gaming later that year. This roster would place 4th in Spring 2021, with a lot of criticism coming T1's way for their extreme amount of player switching throughout the regular season. In Summer 2021, coaches Daeny and Zefa were released from the team in the middle of the split, with Stardust and Moment joining as temporary coaches. They placed second in the Summer split, losing against DAMWON Gaming in the finals, but managed to secure a ticket to Worlds 2021 with a 3-2 win against Hanwha Life Esports in the Regional Finals. Following T1's 3-4th place finish at Worlds 2021, the team parted ways with Canna, Ellim, Cuzz, Clozer, Teddy and Hoit.
The Beginning of ZOFGK Roster (2022)[edit]
T1 promoted Zeus to the starting roster, forming the Zeus-Oner-Faker-Gumayusi-Keria (ZOFGK) roster. T1 managed to become the first LCK team to ever go undefeated in the regular season, beating their own LCK Summer 2015 record, where they finished with a 17-1 record. After winning the Spring 2022 3-1 over Gen.G Esports, the team would go to MSI 2022 making it to the knockout stage with a 7-3 record in the rumble stage qualifying second. The team would face G2, a team that went 1-1 with in the rumble stage but would clean sweep them in a 3-0 series. Their next opponent was Royal Never Give Up where T1 would take blows with them and eventually would go to game 5 where T1 lost out and saw Royal Never Give Up become champions in Korea. The Summer Split saw T1 end the group stage as 2nd place with a 15-3 record. T1 would stop the reverse sweep of DAMWON Gaming winning the series 3-2 and once again found themselves against Gen.G Esports; this time getting swept in the finals losing 3-0. At Worlds 2022 they found themselves in a group with EDward Gaming, Cloud9 and Fnatic. They made it out of groups as the first seed 5-1. In the quaterfinals they would face Royal Never Give Up getting their revenge T1 would sweep the LPL team winning 3-0. The next oppnent was the LPL's first seed JD Gaming. T1 would drop the first game but ultimately won 3-1. In the finals they would face DRX. T1 would take the lead 2-1 but then DRX would eventually win the series 3-2. Following T1's 2nd place finish they decided to keep the same ZOFGK roster for the 2023 season.
Reignition of SKT Legacy (2023)[edit]
In 2023, T1 had a strong start in the LCK 2023 Spring Split with a 17-1 record but lost the Grand Final to Gen.G Esports. Despite this, they directly qualified for the MSI 2023 playoffs, where they had a series of victories and defeats, eventually losing to Bilibili Gaming in the Lower Bracket Final. One month after the start of the Summer Split, Faker was temporarily benched due to an injury, with Poby standing in for Faker's position. Despite having a tough 1-7 record during one month of Faker's absence, and despite Bengi's resignation as the head coach that happened mid-season, they managed to come back up and ended the regular season 5th with a 9-9 record. They had a series of wins in the playoffs but were swept by Gen.G Esports in the Grand Final. Still, they qualified for Worlds 2023 as LCK's 2nd seed with the accumulated points.
T1 made their way through the Swiss stage with a 3-1 record, only dropping a match against Gen.G. After sweeping BLG 2-0 in their last match of Swiss Stage, they first had to face of against LNG Esports from the LPL. As they entered the last quarterfinals match, after the fall of all other LCK teams in Worlds, T1 had become the "LCK's final hope"[123] by being the only team remaining in Worlds outside of the LPL. T1 was were able to sweep 3-0 against LNG.
And even as every other LCK team falls away, FAKER stays standing. T1 stays standing! The last light of the LCK burns bright at Busan, as they head to the semifinals!
Their next opponent was JD Gaming, a team that was looking to complete their "Golden Road" and were seen as the favourites to win the tournament. However, T1 was able to come out on top in the series with a 3-1 upset.
It is not LPL versus LCK, it is T1 versus the LPL! And they like those odds, as they move to Finals!
With their victory, T1 entered their sixth World Finals; this time being faced with Weibo Gaming. T1 dominated the series and swept the final LPL team 3-0, becoming the first team to win 4 Worlds titles.
It was 7 years since their last, and a decade since their first; the SKT legacy has been reignited! T1 will be your 2023 WORLD CHAMPIONS!
Shortly after the team's victory, contracts of players Gumayusi, Keria, and Zeus were renewed as they were due to expire after Worlds. The team also announced the return of kkOma as the head coach.
The New T1 Empire (2024)[edit]
With the same ZOFGK roster, T1 started off the year strong, by only dropping a single match against Gen.G in the first round of Spring regular season. At the same time, T1 started getting distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, which later affected the entire league. This resulted in extended game pauses and switching to pre-recorded streams in LCK. T1 was severely affected by the attacks, affecting their practices and their overall form.[127] Although they finished second in the regular season, they were swept 0-3 by HLE, with Faker admitting that not being able to practice in solo ranked affected them heavily.[128] Despite the challenges, T1 managed to sweep Dplus 3-0 in the lower bracket, then took revenge on HLE with a 3-1 win in the Lower Bracket Final, securing their spot in the MSI. Although T1 secured the match point first, T1 lost their Grand Final for the fourth time in a row against Gen.G.
