Drunken driving checks, limited parking: Delhi Police advisory for New Year's Eve

The year 2024 is coming to an end and Delhiites are set to welcome 2025 with celebrations across the national capital. Anticipating massive crowd and traffic movement, the city traffic police have issued an advisory for the upcoming New Year celebrations, including parking arrangements in and around Connaught Place and India Gate.
The measures aim to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the celebrations on December 31, 2024.
TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
From 8 pm onwards on December 31, vehicles will not be allowed to enter Connaught Place and its vicinity. This includes the following points:
- Mandi House roundabout
- Bengali Market roundabout
- North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover
- Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing
- Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk
- R.K. Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing
- Gole Market roundabout
- General Post Office roundabout
- Patel Chowk
- Kasturba Gandhi Road-Ferozeshah Road crossing
- Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane
- Windsor Place roundabout
The inner, middle, and outer circles of Connaught Place will only be accessible to vehicles with valid passes.
PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
Parking will be available at designated locations near Connaught Place, including:
- Gole Dak Khana (on Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg, and Bhai Veer Singh Marg)
- Patel Chowk (Rakab Ganj Road behind All India Radio)
- Mandi House (Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House)
- Minto Road (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and Press Road area)
- Panchkuian Road (R.K. Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road, and Basant Road)
- Kasturba Gandhi Marg-Ferozeshah Road crossing (Copernicus Lane and K.G. Marg towards C-Hexagon)
- Bengali Market roundabout (Babar Road and Tansen Marg)
- Windsor Place (Rajender Prasad Road and Raisina Road)
- Gole Market (Peshwa Road, Service Road along Bhai Veer Singh Marg, and R.K. Ashram Road)
- Buta Singh roundabout (Jantar Mantar Road and Raisina Road)
Parking will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles parked in unauthorised areas will be towed.
RESTRICTIONS NEAR INDIA GATE
Traffic restrictions will also be in place around India Gate. If pedestrian movement becomes heavy, vehicles will be diverted from key points, including:
- Q-Point
- MLNP roundabout
- Sunehri Masjid roundabout
- Rajpath-Janpath roundabout
- Windsor Place roundabout
- Rajendra Prasad Road-Janpath roundabout
- Mandi House roundabout
- W-Point
- Mathura Road-Purana Qila Road intersection
- Mathura Road-Sher Shah Road intersection
- Visitors are advised to use public transport due to limited parking space.
ADVISORY FOR MOTORISTS
Delhi Traffic Police urged motorists to avoid Mathura Road and Bhairon Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan, as congestion is expected near Delhi Zoo.
SPECIAL CHECKS
Police will conduct strict checks for violations, including drunken driving, overspeeding, stunt biking, reckless driving, and zig-zag or dangerous driving. Violators will face legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
