  • The upgrade to Windows 11 is for the same edition as you have on your Windows 10 device. Windows 11 Pro does not offer Windows 11 Pro in S mode, so you will need to switch out of S mode to upgrade.
  • An update is a change within a version of a Windows product. An upgrade is when you change OS versions, for example moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11, or when you upgrade to a higher edition within the same OS version (e.g., Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro).
