Abstract

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2018 ACM Workshop on Complex Networked Systems for Smart Infrastructure - CNetSys 2018.

The key premise of smart infrastructure is based on a new digital strategy, wherein automated systems would be architected to collect and transmit data from more physical sources than ever. While such a possibility provides an extended ability to look more broadly and deeply at cities and their infrastructures, the cardinality of the networked systems (ranging from the last-mile segment to the backhaul) is expected to grow manifold, both in scale and complexity. In addition the availability of a wide range of heterogeneous network technologies is expected to obscure this ecosystem, with NO one-size-fits-all network connectivity solution. Within the context of city and urban infrastructures, the aim of this workshop is to understand the connectivity, networking, and networked systems challenges that this upcoming paradigm presents, especially with respect to emerging markets.

We have organized the proceedings of this workshop into two major segments. The first segment is focused on research outcomes, while the second segment is an experience-sharing session on the theme of "5G for smart infrastructure and emerging markets". We have a great program in place: 3 keynote talks from an eminent scientist from leading institutes and R&D labs across the globe, 4 invited talks from industry leaders, 3 peer-reviewed research paper presentations, and a panel discussion on various aspects of 5G and its roadmap.
