Hi, the recent edit you made to American Football League has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. Alexfusco5 21:28, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you were hasty with this - that edit was the result of an ongoing conversation [[1]]. We had agreed to split the section off into four separate articles, and a previous editor left these instructions in the article: Please keep this section until all four articles are created; then remove. Which I did. So thank you for your diligence, but I believe your reversion was unwarranted. I did provide an edit summary: removing prior leagues since all four articles have been created - please see Talk Page, which I was hoping would refer people to the existing conversation and explain the reason for the edit.
I won't change it back myself as I don't want the perception of an edit war, but one of the article's other editors might. Just wanted you to know. SixFourThree (talk) 21:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

My bad I misclicked because the next and revert buttons are next to each other, Alexfusco5 21:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'm going to make the edit again. Thanks! SixFourThree (talk) 19:54, 4 March 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

The new one you uploaded looks much nicer than the 100-year-old one. :-)   jj137 (talk) 19:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you like it - I traced it from a picture of Cy Young's jersey in Cooperstown. SixFourThree (talk) 19:54, 24 March 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

Hello there. Sorry to trouble you, but I was the one who created the cap insignia images for all the baseball teams. I'd do it myself, but I don't know how to work SVG's. Could you cut down the image for the Boston insignia? The more negative space around the logo, the smaller it becomes when the entire image is scaled down for the infobox. Cutting down on this makes the logo large as possible. Usually, I leave a pixel between the ends of the logo (in this case the top and bottom) and the edge of the drawing, which should be adequate here. Very nice job, though. Thank you.--The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 03:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit on Florida Marlins

[edit]

Thanks for experimenting with the page Florida Marlins on Wikipedia. Your recent edit appears to have added incorrect information, and has been reverted or removed. All information in the encyclopedia must be verifiable in a reliable published source. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Your addition was not supported by the reference you added. Horologium (talk) 20:58, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I am reverting it back, as it is in the reference. You linked to the last page, which doesn't mention the "Flamingos" moniker, and it's not readily apparent that there are more pages to the article. When I revert it back, I'll fix the link so that it points to the first page. My apologies. Horologium (talk) 21:06, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - didn't realize that I had screwed up the link. SixFourThree (talk) 15:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

Fashion jersey?

[edit]

Please show me the EXACT link that says the official alternate jersey is a "fashion" jersey. Nowhere is the word "fashion" listed on the offical Rams website. However, the word "alternate" is listed for the gold jersey on the OFFICIAL website and therefore....that is an OFFICIAL alternate jersey. Please provide proof otherwise with the word "fashion" being mentioned. If you cannot....then please leave the picture alone. Thank you. JohnnySeoul (talk) 19:05, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at their online store again, you'll notice that the black jerseys are listed as "REPLICAS." The "AUTHENTICS" page[2] only shows the red and white. It's a fashion jersey. SixFourThree (talk) 19:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]
Again, you fail to provide 100% proof that this is a "fashion" jersey. The word "fashion" is only used by you and NOT the OFFICIAL website. Would you rather I call if the "Official replica alternate uniform"?....LMAO. Leave it alone. Thank you. JohnnySeoul (talk) 19:14, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cute, but you're forgetting that the initial assertion was yours - you are the one who must provide proof that it is an actual on-field jersey (on the team's official style sheet) and not just a fashion replica. That's why the "citation needed" tag was applied, to allow somebody an opportunity to support the claim. SixFourThree (talk) 19:17, 17 September 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

[edit]

Hi there, I noticed your question on BJ's talkpage and thought I'd try to help. The image is in the public domain in the United States because it was first published prior to January 1, 1923. The Yankees can claim trademark, but they have no legal copyright over the logo anymore. If you have any more questions to clear this up feel free to drop by my talkpage. §hep¡Talk to me! 03:30, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you're right that the jersey logo is in the public domain. A version of their interlocking "N" and "Y" was in use before 1923, but not the current version. It has been adapted and changed over the years, and the current version dates from the 1960s. If they don't own that because it bears resemblance to the original one, then they don't own the cap logo or print logo either (from the 1970s and 1960s, respectively), as they bear equal resemblance to the 1909 logo. That seems very unlikely to me. Sounds like we need a lawyer to weigh in before making such a pronouncement. SixFourThree (talk) 13:58, 9 October 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]
Can you prove that the image in question was redrawn in the 60s? If not we have to go by the word of the uploader. Are there difference between the 20s and 60s logo so we can tell what version it is? §hep¡Talk to me! 21:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Trademark does not = Copyright. You can bring it to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images if you want. PS the link you gave doesn't work. §hep¡Talk to me! 19:30, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have you read Wikipedia:Logos#Trademark concerns? §hep¡Talk to me! 19:50, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And the answer is yes a trademarked logo can be PD. Take the Cocacola logo for example. §hep¡Talk to me! 20:33, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This entry by User:Blueboy96 [3] from June 30, 2007, is the source of the claim that "two SABR researchers" have debunked the movable fence story. I would guess that it's in one of the SABR publications, but in any case, you're right that a more specific citation is needed. I have reported this issue on his talk page. American League establishment dates

[edit]

I think we should stick with 1901. That's the year the league became a major. Maybe you could take this to WP:Baseball and get some opinions. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 17:12, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And not necessarily because we say so, but because I think you'll find that the typical "original eight" A.L. club defines itself as having been established in 1901, i.e. established as a major league club. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 18:45, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That does seem to be common. The Red Sox page seems flawed either way - it claims the Sox were formed in Buffalo in 1901 - either it was formed in 1901 as the Boston representative in the American League, or it was formed in Buffalo as a Western League club in 1899. SixFourThree (talk) 19:17, 16 December 2008 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]
I'm not sure where the Buffalo nonsense is coming from. But even if someone thinks that the Red Sox transferred from Buffalo, they weren't founded in Buffalo in 1901. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 19:28, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red Sox Uniform

[edit]

To be honest, I had no real basis on this change. The reason I made the socks blue was because I thought that the uniforms for the 80's version this is based on had blue socks (which I always found odd). Upon further inspection, though, it seems that this is just a result of the low quality video I've seen on-line. All of these images are preliminary until we get further information on them. There's little to work with so far for a lot of them. If there is a source that does portray them as wearing blue socks, then perhaps we should wait until there's actual images to work with. Hopefully we will see evidence for this and all the uniforms changes when Spring Training starts in a few days. The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 05:59, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Red Sox have had some blue in their stockings at various times in their history. As shown in the 1991 Okkonen book, they wore red stockings topped with alternating blue and white stripes, starting in 1936 and continuing through 1978. The years since then up to the book's publication date, shows red stockings. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 08:46, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right that they've worn them in the past, but I was curious as to the source of the notion that they will be doing so again this season. As Silent Wind said, this should be cleared up soon enough, but it could be a cautionary tale about treating the video games as a serious source. As a side note, I'd kinda like them to wear blue socks on the road, if only so a Boston-Chicago game at Comiskey would be a total misnomer. SixFourThree (talk) 14:43, 17 February 2009 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]
Holy crap! I seriously thought that this was going to be debunked, especially since I was mistaken about the 86 team wearing blue socks with their away grays. Today is the first day they're wearing their away uniforms, playing a game in Anaheim as we speak (or, rather, as I type), and, holy crap, they're wearing blue socks! The socks that go with the road uniform, or at least the blue alternate, are indeed navy. I guess that clears that up. We can find out about the standard road gray probably tomorrow.--The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 04:32, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merely changing it to the year promotes confusion that the Brewers were a major league club during that time periot, as that is the same format used for [Category:Milwaukee Brewers (1901) players] and [Category:Washington Senators (1961-1971) players], for example. The date range does not address the issue that you brought up, that there were more than one Brewers minor league clubs. The original title, [Category:Milwaukee Brewers (minor league) players], makes this distinction. I understand that you may disagree, but I will revert the pages back to the original cat. Thanks. - Masonpatriot (talk) 18:19, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just don't see the confusion. The "Milwaukee Brewers (minor league)" title goes along with the format used by other categories for team names that exist or existed in both the majors and minors, such as the Buffalo Bisons, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels and Lousiville Colonels. Since those categories abide by that format, I see no reason for the Brewers to do any differently. The Bisons category, for example, I think has been around the longest, and encapsulates the existence of multiple "Bisons" minor league franchises. Again, I don't how the Brewers are any different from these teams, so I really don't see how a compromise improves the situation when a standard is already in place. Thanks. - Masonpatriot (talk) 20:10, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Those are but two of the teams that I listed. I know that the Buffalo Bisons has more than one minor league "franchise" that used that name, yet editors have placed players from all era who played for the Bisons in the same category with no issues. Both Mack and Mathews played for the minor league Milwaukee Brewers, so I have no issue with them being in the same cat. Minor league teams starting up, folding and reappearing in different leagues (or their original leagues folded) was a common situation in the first half of the 20th century. Like I said, I don't see the uniqueness of the Brewers situation, enough so that they should have a separate format. I think one minor league category is sufficient (as opposed to a littany of Brewers cats from different defunct leagues), especially since the cat links to the article, which explains the history in more detail. Just my thoughts, if you want more input, I suggest throwing the question out to WP:Baseball... perhaps some of the other editors will think differently from me. Merge discussion/NY Cosmos 2010

[edit]

Have you checked back on the page for a consensus. It seems to me that at the moment there is support for the articles to be merged, and it is my opinion that the article in fact should have been nominated for deletion due to lack of notability. There is no documentation supporting the purported founding date, but it was placed on the basis of a subjective judgement of the status rather than anything that has been verified by the trademark owner or any publications. This appears to be a violation of Wikipedia guidelines. Such an argument for a separate page is only possibly supportable upon admission to MLS where a definitive expansion date can be determined and sourced and the single entity nature of the league lends a case to considering the team to be a separate entity. But in this case a judgement has been made with out any factual basis. I explained myself further on the discussion page. Enough time for discussion has passed and I believe that you would be within Wiki guidelines to merge the articles or at the very least request a comment from a neutral party. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:FDNYmemorialflag.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:FDNYmemorialflag.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:13, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free to PD

[edit]

Hi SixFourThree. It's OK for you to be bold and change/update a file's licensing if you are sure that's such a change is appropriate per relevant Wikipedia policy. When converting a file from non-free to a free license or public domain, you should also probably change the non-free rationale template to Template:Information in order to avoid any confusion. You might also want to add something to file's talk page explaining in a little detail why the file is public domain, etc. just so others have a better understanding as to why the change is made in cases where just leaving an edit sum might not be sufficient.

It also can be a good idea to add Template:Copy to Wikimedia Commons as well since there's no reason to limit the file's use to only English Wikipedia if it is truly in the public domain. Files uploaded to Commons can be easily used by any Wikimedia Foundation project by simply linking to the file. Fastily was the admin who closed the FFD for the FDNY flag, so I'm sure he can help moving the others to Commons as well if you just let him know the file names. Once the files have been added to Commons, they will be tagged for speedy deletion per WP:F8. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:46, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As a result, the file has been tagged with {{Wrong license}} and is still be seen bots as non-free content. In fact, the file was just reduced in size by a bot, which is something not needed for PD files since they are not subject to WP:NFCC#3a. Assuming you are correct about the licensing of this and any other files whose licensing you may have converted, I suggest you go back and replace the non-free use rationales with information templates. You then can request that the older higher resolution/larger versions of the file be restored per WP:REFUND. I also suggest that you tag the file(s) with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} since there's no reason for Wikipedia to keep a PD-US file locally and Commons is better suited to hosting such images. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:06, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It seems I advised you about this before at #Non-free to PD, but you never got around to it. You should try and fix things asap because the longer a file is tagged with the greater the chance that it will be flagged for some kind of non-free issue by a bot or non-free file reviewer. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:09, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - you did, and I blew it. I can't seem to use the transfer tools, so I manually uploaded it to the Commons. Thanks for the reminder! SixFourThree (talk) 18:57, 21 November 2017 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]
You did not necessarily need to move the files yourself. You could've tagged them for a move and eventually someone would've gotten to them. HOwever, if you reuploaded the files to Commons, then please read WP:F8. The local files can most likely be deleted since they are no needed; moreover, if the file names for both are identical, the software running Wikipedia will always use the local file wherever the file name is linked or used. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:04, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

frontrowsoccer.com on Hudson River Derby

[edit]

I removed the sentence about frontrowsoccer.com's mention of the derby. The site doesn't meet Wikipedia's WP:RSes guideline. Specifically, there is no indication that the site has any editorial oversight. That article doesn't have a byline so its author is not identified. Finally, looking at the content, it seems focused only on association football topics in the area of New York state. Since the derby involves two teams from that area, it makes sense that it would be one of their "No. 1 story". Because you added it while making other edits, I couldn't revert it and felt that you should be notified of the removal rather than find out later. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:55, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough - thanks for the note. SixFourThree (talk) 20:07, 2 January 2018 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

New York Cosmos

[edit]

The 2018 New York Cosmos are playing in the NPSL this season. The NASL has cancelled their 2018 season and has not placed their remaining four clubs on hiatus. The three United States placed clubs have chosen to field their reserve teams in the National Premier Soccer League. Since the formation of the Cosmos B squad in 2015, the team has been used as an amateur side. During the off season a few of the professional players would train or play friendlies with the "B" squad. Over the course of the last few weeks, the Cosmos have announced the signing of four professional players to their "B" squad. They have also dropped their 2017 "B" roster on their website and there are currently six professional players under the ONLY "Roster" tab. The Cosmos, Miami FC, and Jacksonville Armada are currently using their reserve team monikers for their 2018 campaigns because that was the spots originally given. The three above teams are also playing this years NPSL season as fully professional clubs rather than their amateur status. If you disagree, that is your prerogative. However, Danny Szetela's contract was called an "extension" not, "Cosmos B sign long time Cosmos player, Danny Szetela".

--User:Tychu9 (User talk:Tychu9) 22:19, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Except that that same press release contains the subheadline "Defensive midfielder named captain of Cosmos B in the NPSL".[4] And when the Cosmos announced that they had signed Carlos Mendez to coach, the press release was literally titled "CARLOS MENDES NAMED HEAD COACH OF NEW YORK COSMOS B"[5] Not to mention that the club has issued other press releases listing the NPSL club as "Cosmos B", such as this press release announcing "COSMOS B TRYOUTS CONFIRMED"[6] So no, the Cosmos first team is not playing in the NPSL this season. The club itself is making it quite clear that the team playing these is and remains Cosmos B. SixFourThree (talk) 15:43, 26 March 2018 (UTC)SixFourThree[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:RedSoxSecondary Circle.svg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:RedSoxSecondary Circle.svg.

Thank you.

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Iron District Stadium rendering.gif

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Iron District Stadium rendering.gif.

Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Soccer in the New York metropolitan area, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brooklyn FC.
