Welcome!
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. - Hi there, really sorry if I breached the rules. I do want to update the Pope's Grotto section of the Pope's Villa page - much of the information is inaccurate and/or outdated. I am a wikipedia newbie and cannot see if my previous reply to your message blocking my account has gone through. ~~~~Pope's Grotto Preservation Trust Pope's Grotto Preservation Trust (talk) 13:03, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
- Provide a new username.
To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.
Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. - That's still a WP:CORPNAME and you have not addressed how you will not make promotiona edits in the future. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:25, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the apologies – mistakes happen, and we all know that this project is not easy to navigate for new users. I'll be pleased to unblock your account if you would kindly:
- choose a username that represents you as an individual; it doesn't have to be a real name, but it can't be the name of a group or organisation;
- confirm that you understand that you have – by our definition – a conflict of interest in regard to the grotto and the trust, and so should not edit the Pope's villa article directly, but instead use the talk-page of the article to suggest changes (with supporting sources, of course); and
- confirm that you understand our copyright policy and that material from non-free external sources may not be added to this project without documented permission.
- Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:49, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your help. I'll choose a new username. I will also use the talk-page to suggest changes. Re.: the copyright item - I understand the copyright policy. I did not add any content that might be subject to copyright so don't understand why this is an issue here - all quotes were there already. I did qualify a quote from Mavis Batey by adding a link to the author's wikipedia page, but I did not add the quote. Pope's Grotto Preservation Trust (talk) 18:02, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again! The name you've chosen below is acceptable (unless by some weird coincidence someone else has chosen one very similar to it). Your reply about copyright, on the other hand, is concerning. With your first edit to Pope's villa today you added this: "A mine of minerals gathered from all parts of the world, it is listed Grade ... " and this: " ... is loaded with significance for British culture and for the birth of the English Landscape Garden Movement ... ". Could you please explain why I had to revert your edits and hide them from general view? And why it was perfectly acceptable for you to add the quotation from Mavis Batey (which you did in the same edit)? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:25, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello yet again! I'm perplexed by your comments below about the Batey quotation. This is what the page looked like immediately before your edit at 12:55 on 19 May 2024 (which you can no longer see for copyright reasons). I don't see the word 'Batey' in that page; if you do, please quote in full the sentence in which it occurs so that I can search it out for myself. Thank you.
- I've said above that I'll be pleased to unblock your account if you can show some understanding of our policies, and of our copyright policy in particular. You have now claimed, as you did not before, that the stuff about 'loaded with significance' and so on was written by you. Once again, could you please explain why I – who did not have the benefit of that information at the time – reverted that edit of yours and hid it from general view?
- There are instructions here for irrevocably releasing copyright material so that anyone, anywhere, can use it in any way they wish. However, please be aware that in practice content from external websites released in this way is hardly ever/almost never included in the encyclopaedia. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:08, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks for your message. I tried to respond to the other admin but was unable to do so as I was blocked. I accept that my original edits were not acceptable and I tried to rectify them. The previous admin is incorrect when they said I added the Mavis Batey quotation to the page. I did not - it has been on that page for a very long time. I added Batey's profession as garden historian and a link to her own wikipedia page. I may have cut and pasted the quotation into the page again when doing so, I don't remember. But if you view a version of the Pope's Villa page from before 18 May 2024 you will see that the Batey quotation is there. I also did not add any copyrighted material to the page. I added a couple of sentences about the grotto being liksted Grade II and loaded with significance for the landscape garden movement. That is my own work, which I wrote for the Pope's Grotto Preservation Trust (charity) website some time ago, and is not subject to copyright. I assume I should have added a citation? Would that have been within community rules? Apart from that I simply don't know what I have done to breach the rules. I have tried to address this but have been unsuccessful due to being blocked. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. 2A02:C7C:6492:2600:9DC:501B:8584:A2F1 (talk) 18:18, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
