To get sound effects just right, the team at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle spared no effort to nail that nostalgic whip crack.   Audio Director Pete Ward shared: “Indy’s whip has such an immediately recognizable sound, and we knew right away that we wanted it to sound the way it does in the movies.”   The audio team used whip sound effects from Lucasfilm as a base, then recorded additional, bespoke content. They first tried whipcracking themselves, but found it was hard to do consistently without hurting oneself. So, an expert in Sweden was brought in to help the team record across multiple environments, resulting in the perfect suite of sound effects.   Take a listen for yourself in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, available now!

For some, the holidays can be a time of heightened stress and an increased need for self-care. Video games have emerged as a unique and effective sanctuary, offering players an escape from daily pressures through creative play and rewarding challenges. Beyond distraction, gaming provides a space where players can rewrite their narratives— finding accomplishment, control, and relaxation that may be elusive in daily life. As self-care becomes a more inclusive and accepted topic across social media platforms, workplaces, and schools, video games are emerging as a bridge that connects people across diverse backgrounds. When designed with intention, games can foster positive emotional experiences and even inspire therapeutic outcomes. At Xbox, we embrace the power of play, not only as creators but as players ourselves. The next great game developers could be anywhere in the world, but they might not have the support or community they need to take the next step. That’s where Xbox Game Camp comes in.    The team hosts sessions across the globe to educate and empower people from non-traditional backgrounds and help them realize their potential in the gaming industry. And today, for the first time, they’re launching Xbox Game Camp in Ukraine.   This immersive, virtual learning experience is designed to support and celebrate new and established game developers. Xbox Game Camp has already hosted sessions across Africa, Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, and the United States.    To celebrate the launch of Game Camp Ukraine, watch what Game Camp means to program alumni.
