  • 🌟 Volunteer Spotlight! 🌟   Join the GBTA Risk Committee in celebrating our amazing committee members who contribute their time and expertise to make a difference. We're thrilled to feature Canada Risk Committee Vice Chair Samantha P. of International Development Research Centre (IDRC)! Read on to learn more about her incredible contributions and dedication! What motivated you to volunteer for the GBTA Risk Committee?   I think for all of us, the pandemic highlighted the critical importance of Duty of Care and underscored the need for organizations to have robust risk management processes in place to protect their travelers. My role evolved to include a greater focus on security which led me to seek out trainings and materials to deepen my knowledge of travel risk management. When I heard about the GBTA Risk Committee, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share my experience and engage with others doing similar work.   What’s your favorite part about being a volunteer with GBTA?   Learning from other committee members. The sharing of thoughts, experiences and advice has been invaluable and has helped me improve my own programs and policies. It’s also rewarding to create and deliver constructive content to enhance the knowledge of the travel community.   What advice would you give to someone considering joining GBTA's Risk Committee?   Do it. You will gain just as much (if not more!) than you contribute. It’s a great opportunity to meet others in the field, gain knowledge, and stay on top of emerging trends.

  • 🌟 Volunteer Spotlight! 🌟   Join the GBTA Risk Committee in celebrating our amazing committee members who contribute their time and expertise to make a difference. We're thrilled to feature EMEA Risk Committee member Kellie Whitaker, CTE of Kellanova! Read on to learn more about her incredible contributions and dedication! What motivated you to volunteer for the GBTA Risk Committee? Well technically I didn’t volunteer. I was participating in education sessions at GBTA in Atlanta earlier this year. Both days were really valuable and it was a great opportunity to network with peers and provide insights and learnings across multiple facets of the travel industry. After the 2 days ended I was approached directly by a member of GBTA to ask if I would be interested in joining any GBTA committees. I submitted the necessary forms and indicated my areas of expertise and interest. Risk Management has always been top of mind for me. My role reports into the VP of Global Security so I have the benefit of working closely with our security and risk teams as well as our risk providers. This allows me access to insights and strategy that other people in similar roles may not be privy to when reporting into other functions like Finance or Procurement. We have a well established, robust Travel program and I see this opportunity as way to share my experiences and knowledge with those who are looking to develop and grow their Travel Risk Strategies. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Control the Controllables - Worrying about controlling the things you can control. What’s the most rewarding part of volunteering for GBTA's Risk Committee for you? Getting to share my experience and knowledge with others who are starting out on their journey or looking to change/adjust their current strategies. Travel Managers/Directors are often on an island within our organizations – there aren’t many of us! Having an opportunity to facilitate discussions and network with others who understand the roles we do and the challenges we face has been a key in my career journey. Being given the opportunity to support and help others is the reward! #GBTA #GBTARiskCommittee #Risky
