Arm said it will seek a retrial of its lawsuit against Qualcomm over a licensing dispute related to the latter company’s Snapdragon X chips after a federal jury sided with Qualcomm over two key issues but was deadlocked on a third.

A federal jury has found that Qualcomm did not breach Arm’s licensing terms related to the development of custom CPU cores at the heart of its Snapdragon X chips for Copilot+ PCs in a legal battle between the two semiconductor companies.

With my expanded semiconductor focus, I wrote this feature based on an interview with I did with Dan McNamara, general manager of AMD's server business unit, about his push sell EPYC-based systems with channel partners, especially when it came to the midmarket and SMB segments. While I went into the interview expecting to talk a lot about AMD's recently released fifth-generation EPYC processors, code-named "Turin," McNamara ended up talking a lot about the opportunities he still sees with the previous generation, which consist of the general-purpose “Genoa” chips, cloud-focused “Bergamo” chips and edge-focused “Sienna” chips. "Those are high-value products that we’re going to sell for a long, long time," he said. McNamara also talked about how he is building a channel development team in his business unit to support the chip designer’s salespeople who are working with partners ranging from GSIs to VARs. “Every region has the top VARs. And then every OEM has the top VARs. They're the top channel partners. So it’s really just putting that matrix together and creating real plays that our sales guys can continue to drive. These aren't silver bullets. It's almost like blocking and tackling, but you have to do it," he said. With 39 acquisitions in 2024, Accenture saw no slowdown when it came to the solution provider’s M&A streak. “Last [fiscal] year we invested $6.6 billion across 46 acquisitions.
