Science and Energy Entrepreneurship at Argonne National Laboratory
About us
Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI) is a two-year entrepreneurship program at Argonne National Laboratory for early-stage startups focusing on energy and science technologies. The program is one of four Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Programs (LEEP) supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. Program fellows receive financial and technical support to mature technologies that face long development timelines, getting them to the point where they can access conventional financial support to scale and launch into the marketplace. CRI’s ability to embed innovators at Argonne and provide multi-faceted two-year support sets it apart from incubators, accelerators and R&D fellowships.

Congrats to CRI alumni Stemloop, Inc. and its Founder & CEO Khalid K. Alam, Ph.D. for this award!
🌟Exciting news!🌟 Last week, Stemloop was awarded funding from Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Biotechnology initiative to enable machine learning (ML) for biosensors. “This award validates our cutting-edge capabilities and platform for biosensor discovery and development,” said Khalid K. Alam, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Stemloop. “It kickstarts our goal of creating ML models for biosensors and decreasing development time by 10-fold.” This award comes following the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry’s recognition of computational protein design. While breakthroughs have accelerated protein structure prediction, the field faces a critical challenge: insufficient data to train for protein function prediction. Stemloop co-founder, Julius Lucks, Ph.D., added, “the last two years have seen an explosion in AI’s ability to model design biomolecular structures, but we haven’t had the functional data to design biosensors. Stemloop’s high-throughput discovery and characterization platform promises to close this gap and usher in a new wave of AI-designed biosensor products.” Our biosensor technology has potential across many industries, including environmental monitoring, healthcare, and national security. While traditional analytical methods are often costly, slow, and low-throughput, Stemloop’s biosensors overcome these barriers with rapid, cost-effective, and easy-to-use solutions powered by cell-free synthetic biology. With the addition of this award, we are well-positioned to revolutionize how we measure and monitor the small molecules that make up our world. “DARPA’s support is a significant step forward in our journey to unlock the power of biology to sense and respond to the world’s challenges,” said Alam. 📖Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dEhYWsb8 #DARPA #AI #MachineLearning #SyntheticBiology

Congrats to memQ and CRI cohort 6 co-founders Manish Kumar Singh and Sean Sullivan for this momentous accomplishment!
We started memQ with a singular vision: *Bringing silicon-like scalability to qubits* It's with immense pride that I am sharing a key milestone that memQ achieved recently - a full 300mm wafer with our designs for single photon emitters and quantum memory. Operationally, we believe that long developmental cycles kills the pace of innovation. Which is way from day 1 we 1. Focussed on the most important metric we could optimize in-house 2. Kept our developmental cycles short - we got multiple shots on goal 3. Leveraged some of the most advanced technology out there to deliver on our goals Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we announce details of the work this foundry tapeout has enabled! With thanks to Chain Reaction Innovations, Duality Accelerator, Quantonation, Exposition Ventures and Hyde Park Venture Partners.
