How to be successful and stand out at interview!
Whether you're stepping into your first job interview or you are a seasoned professional in interviewing, the key to standing out and feeling confident at interview process requires preparation & confidence. This guide covers everything you need to know to impress at interview.
1. Prepare Thoroughly ✍🏼
Preparing for an interview will allow you to feel more confident and less flustered when heading into the interview, the more preparation you can do the better.
"Fail to prepare, prepare to fail"
Research the Company
Research the companies mission, values and any company news, this shows you have taken a real interest in getting to know the company and if it aligns with what you are looking for.
Take a look at key competitors, this will show business acumen and effort gone into learning more about your potential new employee.
Understand the Role
Read, read and read the job description again, this will help you prepare potential answers in interview and you can make sure the job really aligns with what you are looking for.
Highlight how your skills match the job description and think about how your skills can add value to the role.
Have a think about examples you have demonstrated that match the job duties in the description
Research your interviewers
Where possible find out whose interviewing you and look them up on LinkedIn this will make you stand out as you have taken the time to get to know them and their background
2. Prepare your answers ahead of time 📚
It's not always possible to know what we will be asked in interview but their are some common questions that are usually asked and its helpful to have those prepared before interview.
Examples:
Tell me about yourself: Focus on your professional journey and any key achievements in that time, and a brief round up of why you are looking for your next role. Use positive tone throughout
Why do you want to work here? This is a great question t put into practice your research you have done , you can Show alignment with the company’s values and highlight some of the things you like about the company and enthusiasm for the role.
What are your strengths and weaknesses? Always a question that catches people out, strengths are easy to highlight but when talking about your weaknesses be sure to follow it up with a growth plan for improvement.
3. Ask questions ⁉️
By asking questions in interview demonstrates your interest and enthusiasm for the role. People enjoy talking about their journeys and experience and allows the conversation to flow
Examples:
What can I do in my first three months to be successful in this role?
What do you like about working for this company?
What can i expect in terms of growth opportunities here?
4. Dress for Success 👔
First impressions count for everything! Make sure you are dressed in line with the companies culture, always make sure you are smart and well presented. If in doubt I would always suggest going smart to an interview, better that than to be underdressed and make a poor impression.
5. It's not just about what you say! 🙊
Body language gives an awful lot away and can make or break an interview:
Maintain good posture
Making eye contact with your interviewer throughout interview
Firm handshake shows confidence
Smiling and nodding to show interest and engagement in the process
6. Showcase Your Skills with Evidence
Competition can be fierce in the tech world, be sure to showcase your skills but evidence them with facts and figures, this will demonstrate your ability to add value and provide solutions to the Employers problems.
e.g “Led a team of 6 engineers to deliver a product that cut client costs by 20%.”
7. Video calls are just as important to prepare for!
Be sure to make you are just as prepared for video interviews, technology can not always go to plan so it is important you prepare ahead of time.
Testing your technology in advance (camera, mic, and internet connection).
Choose a quiet location with no distractions
Make sure your surroundings are clean and tidy
Maintaining eye contact by looking into the camera.
8. Be sure to follow up
Following up after interviews makes you stand out from the crowd. You are showing the employer that you are interested and engaged and have taken the time out to thank them.
Example:
Subject: Thank You for the Opportunity
Dear [Interviewer’s Name],
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. I enjoyed learning more about [specific topic discussed].
I’m excited about the opportunity to work at [company name] and look forward to the next steps.
Best regards, [Your Name]

3wIn the point no.5 which related to body language in my opinion it is an art and not easily to do it perfectly because it is depends in human nature there some situation that you con not or lets say difficult to do the correct reply in body language or you change it from inside your self
