Is it Rocking All Over the World? Or Down Down with M&S’s Latest Ad?

Splitting the nation this week is Marks and Spencer's 'Saving All Over The World'…if..like some of us at Brand Champions, you grew up with the sound of Status Quo playing out through the house, the car, the garden, as your parents were avid fans, it might immediately appeal to you, even with the lyric changes.

But for other’s it isn’t.

As M&S push their value messaging, a key promise from their Managing Director of M&S Food, Alex Freudmann - Yahoo News quoted some viewers as saying “I don’t want to watch the M&S Status Quo video, please don’t make me." and "So cringy! Do love M&S though but this lol 😂".

But whatever your thoughts, it is definitely gathering momentum for the brand and apparently it’s all down to one of M&S’s own…“All thanks to a suggestion from a lovely lad called Jack - apparently he’s done several viral videos about how good value M&S Food is, so we thought we’d beat him at his own game” says Francis Rossi of Status Quo.

Although many might initially presume it's for the older audience, the inclusion of influencers brings it to a younger fan base, hitting the likes on TikTok or maybe that’s for that cameo from everyone's favourite pink pig - Percy!

The question is - should M&S have left status quo outside the store…we don’t think so.

We like it, we like it, we like it.

Same Fiona Wylie my parents are loving it too! I like it - but maybe that’s because I am from the childhood of a Status Quo fan. I love the tie in to social too and nice to see a local town represented in Devizes 🙌🏼

Well my Mum loves it - it’s a massive diversion from the usual M and S. it’s definitely an earworm so I’m holding judgement on this until I’ve heard it a few more times! Matthew Charlton is this a rival earworm for #webuyanycar
