Hey friends, I’m excited to share a special opportunity to join Arboretum Coffee’s board of directors as we continue to grow and make a meaningful impact here in Northern Colorado. For those of you who don’t know, Arboretum Coffee is more than a coffee shop. We’re a nonprofit that creates dignified, empowering opportunities for refugees and immigrants through our 12-month paid apprenticeship program. Through this program, participants gain real skills, build social capital, and experience healing and growth—all while working in a welcoming and supportive environment. We’re looking for new board members who: Have experience in fundraising or philanthropic networks to help support and scale our mission. Could take on a leadership role as our board chairperson. Bring lived experience as a refugee or immigrant, or have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by these communities. What’s in it for you? Joining the board means becoming part of a movement that’s creating real change for marginalized communities. You’ll help shape our strategy, grow our impact, and be a part of a network of passionate changemakers. Plus, you’ll be using your expertise to help break down systemic barriers for refugees and immigrants—something that’s incredibly rewarding. 🌍 International Volunteer Day: A Journey of Growth and Impact 🌟 Volunteering has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life, shaping me into a more empathetic, resilient, and purpose-driven person. It has taught me the true meaning of community, the value of compassion, and the importance of taking action to create change—no matter how small. Through volunteering, I’ve learned to step out of my comfort zone, connect with people from diverse backgrounds, and see challenges as opportunities for growth. It has shown me that giving back is not just about helping others; it’s about learning, evolving, and discovering the strength within yourself to make a difference. Celebrating 16+ Years of Volunteerism on #WorldVolunteerDay What started as a way to pass time while waiting for university admission over 16 years ago has blossomed into a life-defining journey. Back then, I didn’t realize that volunteering would become a cornerstone of my life. But as I grew, I discovered a tenacious enthusiasm within me—a deep desire to improve lives and contribute to something greater than myself. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering with a variety of organizations—educational, health-based, faith-based—on both local and international levels. Each experience taught me the power of service and the beauty of community. But everything changed in 2018. I attended an event hosted by the late Ubong King, where one of the speakers, Olive Emodi , said something that reshaped my approach to volunteerism: "It’s not enough to volunteer. Volunteer with organizations that align with your career path and purpose." That resonated deeply. From that moment, I began channeling my time, skills, and resources into causes focused on #education aligning my passion with purpose. The result? A journey filled with fulfillment and meaningful impact. Today, as the world marks #InternationalVolunteerDay I want to encourage you: - Find a cause you believe in. - Dedicate your time and skills. - Be a blessing to someone.
