The Scottish Government has launched its first Techscaler hub in Silicon Valley to help promising startups from Scotland build contacts with international investors and customers. The pilot programme is providing office space for 12 startups in San Francisco, close to the city’s venture capital finance district. The new businesses are developing entrepreneurial ideas in areas from health technology to space tech. Technology incubator CodeBase is running the programme and aims to create a permanent hub enabling business owners to remain in Scotland in the longer term while maintaining easy access to the San Francisco tech community. Daniel Grant, founder of notation.dev, one of the first companies to use the hub, said: “Joining the San Francisco hub has energised me, and enabled me to connect with people from around the world working at the forefront of tech. “The power of San Francisco is the velocity at which information moves through the city. ✨ I couldn't think of a better way to publicize that we're hard at work on our #startup Belfort, than by announcing our big win at Stage Two in Berlin last week. 🚀🚀 Belfort is building on our research at COSIC (KU Leuven). We’re on a mission to revolutionize data security and privacy, by enabling computing on encrypted data. This technology allows you to protect sensitive data by encrypting it, while still allowing computation or analysis on that data. We’re making computing on encrypted data fast and cost-effective, by deploying it on our own dedicated semiconductor chips. Last week, I pitched Belfort at Stage Two, the largest pan-European startup competition for the best startups spinning out of leading universities. In Berlin, every university’s top team competed for investment prizes. I was on stage for Belfort, pitching in front of a jury consisting of investors and industry leaders. Belfort emerged as the big winner among 50+ startups from 40+ universities. We pitched twice, once in the semi-finals and once in the finals, and went home with 4 investment prizes.🏆We secured two of the three largest €1M investment tickets*, from IQ Capital and Seaya, and two fast-track-to-IC prizes, from APEX Ventures and Armilar.
