Over 65 million households in the 🇺🇸 own at least one dog. Last night my dog-loving family gathered together to watch this truly delightful documentary from Netflix called, "Inside the Mind of a Dog." Some fascinating insights included: 🐾 Dogs smell in color 🐾 Dogs have nose prints the same way humans have fingerprints 🐾 Every dog breed is another version of a wolf. Dogs are also an "evolutionary triumph", leading an evolutionary biologist from Duke University to refer to their success as "survival of the friendliest". Having spent over 25 years studying animal evolution, Dr. Brian Hare encourages humans to learn from our canine pals. "...how you get ahead in the game of life, is you evolve a new way to be friendly that leads to a new form of cooperation." "Humans 100,000 years ago...(were) not alone. There were at least four to five other human species. And the question then becomes, 'Well, why are we the only one left?'...what dogs point to is that we were the friendliest species that evolved among humans, and that we survived because we are friendly." When we see animals in trouble… …it calls us to take action. What does this feeling mean? It means that our choices can sometimes harm others, and it’s our duty to help. Every action we take can affect the lives of animals around us. So, what can we do when we witness their struggles? We can step up, whether that means lending a hand, advocating for their rights, or making choices that protect their habitats. We assist those in need by taking action and acknowledging our role in their well-being. 💭 As we move forward, let’s reflect: How can we ensure our choices support animals?
