Ladies - and gents - what are your thoughts on HOTELS magazine's question: "Does an Old Boys Club Still Exist in the Hotel Industry?" Being in an industry that primarily employs women, I am always inspired by female leaders who grab the reins and start their own hospitality business. Hotel representation companies are one enduring success story. Kudos to veterans Dominique Debay of Dominique Debay Collection, Suzanne Goldberg of The Art of Hospitality and Tara D'Agostino of WanderLuxe Destinations for writing their own success story. There are many other stories to be told. Let's keep sharing them. #travelunites #luxurytravel #hospitalityindustry #womeninhospitality
Does an "old boys club" still exist in the hotel industry? Short answer: yes. But it's a longer conversation. - HOTELSMag.com

2024 marks a pivotal year for the hospitality industry, where inclusivity takes center stage. I'd like to highlight this piece from UKHospitality where Kate Nicholls OBE shared her vision for inclusivity in the UK hospitality landscape. (link in comment) I'm thrilled to see the progress made, with a third of all board positions now held by women. This achievement signifies a significant step forward in our journey towards a more balanced and equitable sector. I recently connected with +40 women from different roles within the industry during our event last month and I can only say how impressed I have been by all the initiatives: To name just a few: Be Inclusive Hospitality Hulya Erdal Women In The Food Industry QAB Leadership LTD The Burnt Chef Project But there is of course lots to be done. There is a need to see more women stepping into leadership and executive roles, driving innovation and shaping the future of hospitality. Diversity and inclusivity aren't just buzzwords – they're essential components of a thriving industry. Recruiting from diverse talent pools to ensure fresh perspectives and ideas is urgent. Moreover, we recognise that flexibility and support for work-life balance are essential. By fostering environments where individuals can thrive both personally and professionally, we attract a broader range of talent to our industry. This is why we see more and more talents joining a solution like Brigad UK By leading the way in diversity and inclusion, the hospitality sector set an example for others, demonstrating that a diverse workforce isn't just beneficial – it's essential for building a sustainable and rewarding society. Let's keep pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and creating a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Together, we can make 2024 a year of unprecedented growth and inclusivity in the hospitality industry. #InclusiveHospitality #WomenInLeadership #DiversityandInclusion

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗅 But we all knew that already… Though progress may feel slow, we’re seeing inspiring strides toward gender equality in leadership within the travel technology industry. From Ariane Gorin at Expedia Group to Vanessa Hudson at Qantas, women are stepping into more CEO roles, showcasing our collective potential. But there’s more work to do to further close the gap. We need: - More female role models to inspire emerging leaders. - Increased funding for female founders to fuel growth. - Diverse voices at conferences to reshape industry perspectives. - Mentorship programs to support women at all career levels. - Recruitment efforts at the university level to attract new talent early. A huge thank you to Nina Kleaveland, Luisa Oyarzábal Gómez-Reino, Ayse YASAR, and Roman Townsend for their valuable insights and contributions to this important conversation. The gap is closing, and with continuous support, mentoring, and diverse visibility, we are paving the way for future leaders! Read more in this article in today's PhocusWire https://lnkd.in/dY366nSX that inspired this post Together, let’s push for a more inclusive and balanced future in travel tech leadership! Just 15.6% of leadership members across B2B tech companies are female. And yet 58% of the lodging and accommodation workforce was female as of 2022 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It's staggering when you think about the gap that needs to be closed. And yet, I've never been more optimistic about the future of female leadership in the hospitality industry. We're now measuring the gap across different segments of the industry thanks to the Women in Hospitality annual report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation and this new finding from Belvera Partners and PhocusWire. It's not just anecdotal. This is critical. Also, initiatives like Female Founders in Hospitality and the Women in Hospitality Leadership Alliance comprising over 30 organizations are working to advance women across the industry. I'm thrilled to be part of the change along with so many other incredible women and allies. #fundfemalefounders #thefutureisfemale #travelindustry
The gap between female and male leadership within the #travel technology industry is shrinking - at a snail's pace - but becoming smaller still. The results of a July analysis by Belvera Partners, show that 15.6% of leadership members - “CEOs of the top companies and most visible individuals” - across the B2B travel #technology industry are women. Industry experts believe the data point is worth paying attention to. “It's one of the first stats we have for the industry - this industry specifically,” said Nina Kleaveland, the founder and CEO of Lanyard who also created the group Female Founders in Hospitality. Inspire Inclusion. This is the theme for this year's #InternationalWomensDay. While progress has been made over the years on gender equity, there is still so much work to be done to ensure that women and marginalized groups are: ✅ included -- that women of all backgrounds are invited and welcome to the table, including at the highest levels ✅ given access -- to support, education, resources, and investment ✅ provided opportunities -- in employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership. What might that look like in practice for the tourism sector to invest in women and not just inspire, but actually be, inclusive? 💡 Develop tourism products together with local community organizations and social enterprises that focus on supporting local women and marginalized groups. There are so many inspiring examples of this by Planeterra. 💡Hire more women at all levels of the organization, especially in leadership and management positions. While 54% of the tourism workforce is women, most of these are lower level positions. 💡Deploy innovation in gender diversity. Open positions and offer or expand training for women-led initiatives that might at first be considered unconventional. For example, Sakha Cabs & Chauffeurs in India trains women, often single mothers, to be taxi and professional drivers, a profession once considered “a man’s work.” 💡 Don’t just localize the supply chain, but make it more gender equal by choosing women-owned suppliers and local businesses. This approach will not only support your gender inclusive activities, but women-owned businesses tend to amplify and expand opportunity and employment for other women in the community. 💡Identify barriers and understand local women’s needs by asking -- not assuming for - them. Then provide the support they need to productively engage in projects, get the skills they want, and join the workforce.* For example, this might include offering child care or transport to and from work to alleviate safety concerns. 💡 Encourage women to be the storytellers and provide a platform to tell their stories. Especially in indigenous communities, we’ve found that women are the stewards of tradition and culture. Tourism companies are in an ideal position to amplify women's knowledge, stories, and voices by inviting women to be guides or speak as local experts. What else would you add? And why does this matter? Investing in women is truly an investment in our communities and future generations. #iwd2024 #womenintourism
