Despite a 16% increase in real estate sector hiring since last 6 months - why is there a scarcity of women talent in one of the highest growing industries ? Women are a key tenet of the workforce, but they have largely been devoid of equal opportunities, wages and life stage transitions support Our socio-economic system needs a mindset change - starting from ground zero Instead of thinking, "Oh, a field job in construction is usually not preferred by women" it should be, "How can we enable women to excel in this role?" Women as a talent pool have so much to offer in this industry, from fresh ideas to unique problem-solving approaches Yet, they face hurdles like conscious and unconscious gender bias, lack of mentorship, and limited support during life transitions But here’s the turning point – C.R.E.W. Godrej is on a mission to change the face of real estate and we want all of you to be part of it. C.R.E.W. is a community where women in real estate, construction, and allied sectors come together to share experiences, develop community and uplift one another. You’ll find mentors who’ve been through the same struggles, peers who’ll cheer for your successes, and resources that’ll help you grow. We need to debunk myths about women in real estate to make it more attractive and appealing, encouraging them and their families to see it as a viable career option. If you are a woman interested in this sector - Whether you’re just starting out or looking to reshape your career - We invite you to become a part of the 'housemaker' with us. THE WORLD’S LARGEST CLOCK MANUFACTURER HAS A 95% WOMEN WORKFORCE Almost every family in India would perhaps have an Ajanta Clock in their home and today the company over ₹2200 Crores has been the largest manufacturer of clocks This company Ajanta Limited (Ajanta-Orpat Group Of Industries) was started by Odhavjibhai and his son Pravinbhai Patel who were also the first to bring the quartz technology to India after a visit to Japan in 1975. Quartz clocks use an electric oscillator regulated by a quartz crystal to keep time. With this technology, clocks no longer had to be wound Soon, the company launched Ajanta Quartz and India’s first quartz clock, called ‘Janta’, was launched in 1985 and gained immense popularity One of the most interesting facts about the company is the LARGEST FEMALE WORKFORCE it employs In the 1980’s Pravinbhai Patel could not find people to work in his factory since the men in Saurashtra were busy with agriculture while others migrated to south Gujarat to work in the better-paying diamond-polishing business It was then that Pravinbhai decided to employ women in his company; now they make up 95 % of the total workforce of 7000 employees He had travelled to nearby villages to convince the village leaders and the families to send their daughters to work. However, it wasn’t an easy task The family then decided to set an example and Pravinbhai encouraged his wife Vanitaben to join the company. She was the first woman employee in Gujarat’s Morbi city! After Vanitaben joined the company, Patel managed to convince women and their families from villages, within a 65km radius, such as Paddhari, Tankara, Maliya, Dhrol and Morbi and they began working at Ajanta The company provides bus transportation to all these employees. They are driven by the women themselves on designated routes every morning The women learnt discipline, value of time and how to make money working at the factories. All these learnings help them in running their family and dealing with their family members and people around While millions have an Ajanta clock at home, they don’t know all three clocks are made by women. A #brand that’s in every home and the products top quality that didn’t require very aggressive #marketing Huge round of applause especially to Vanitaben Patel who stepped in and been the catalyst for change These are the company’s that define India. Starting out from Morbi, a small tier 2 about 70 kms from Rajkot, Gujarat and many not know where is “Morbi” The business has now expanded by 3 generation Nevil Patel, son of Vanitaben and Pravinbhai and they sell these beautiful clocks over 80 countries in the world and of course now through #ecommerce platforms too #sundaystories

28 years of ‘Namma Manasa’ is now digitized under #ServantsOfKnowledge at Gandhi Bhavan, Bengaluru #Digitization #NammaManasa #FeministVoices #DigitalArchive #EmpoweredThroughKnowledge Access here: @internetarchive https://lnkd.in/gWykhrYs & here https://lnkd.in/gBqaRY99 ‘Namma Manasa’ ‘Namma Manasa’ a monthly magazine was launched in 1986 as part of the autonomous women’s group ‘Manasa’. For about 28 years the magazine has made significant mark in Karnataka as a voice of the women’s movement. Initially started under the name of ‘Manavi’, the magazine functioned under the names of ‘Manasa monthly magazine’, ‘Manasa’, and finally registered as ‘Namma Manasa’. ‘Manasa’ magazine embodies the notion of autonomy by practicing the collective leadership. There was no concept of leader or cadre. Rejecting the hierarchies, Manasa magazine emphasized the collective leadership. The collective stance was against any form of institutional structure. The magazine insisted on to maintain its autonomy by operating without any sort of government or foreign aid and keeping transparency in financial aid and institutional structure. Hence, the ‘Manasa’ Magazine was run purely based on membership and individual contributions. The magazine did make use of the homes of ‘Manasa’ members for many of its activities. In tune with its belief of utilizing public spaces for People movements, for several years many of the ‘Manasa’ magazine meetings were held at Premises/Steps of Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore. Reflecting the true values of ‘Manasa’, the magazine’s finances were managed without resorting to fixed deposits or interest income. Between 1986 to 2013, the magazine published many articles not only on women’s struggles but also inclusive of the struggles, movements and visions of farmers, laborers, LGBTQ community, Dalits, single women, women street cleaners, the unorganized sector and garment workers from a feminist perspective. The ‘Manasa ‘magazine paved a way for feminist discourse which was aimed at fostering a vision and perspective to be inclusive of all human struggles at its core. In 2024, we have got the opportunity to digitize and reintroduce 28 years of magazine issues to the public specially, the younger generation. The digitization aims to blend the history of the autonomous women’s movement with current feminist perspectives, offering a new feminist insight into contemporary life from a humanistic stand point.

In Rajasthan, patriarchal culture often confines married women to their homes, making it almost impossible to earn a living, and leaving women vulnerable to domestic and financial abuse. But Sadhna, a fair trade business, is changing things – making it safe for women to work, though community sensitisation, homeworking opportunities, and all-female workspaces. Income is giving women status and power previously unthinkable in this community. This Christmas, invest in businesses like Sadhna and enable women to work without fear https://lnkd.in/ekSzN5AF
