Last month, I debunked a virtual event myth. This month, we're talking about conferences. Myth #2 "Conferences are outdated and boring." Traditional conferences, with endless keynotes and panels, are starting to feel stale. Attendees are craving more dynamic, interactive experiences rather than sitting through hours of passive presentations. My Take: Conferences can be boring, but they’re far from outdated. In fact, they’re crucial for industry growth! The challenge for event planners is to break the mold and get creative with engagement. Attendees want to participate, not just observe. Are conferences losing their appeal, or do they still serve a valuable purpose? #conferences #eventprofs #eventmanagement

This could be useful :-) Excerpts "When it comes to getting company buy-in on conferences, content matters, while size is a variable." "A small conference that sharply aligns with your company’s focus might help you build a stronger case than something huge and overly general. Even at big conferences, though, the case you want to make is built on details." https://lnkd.in/ggxz2xAQ Good luck with "the convincing"!

Are you telling stories at your events? Stories are how we connect. They make us feel, remember, and act. The same is true for events Think about it: the best events don’t just share information They take people on a journey. From the opening keynote to the breakout sessions, to the conversations in the hallway—every piece should tie into a bigger story What’s the “why” behind your event? What’s the feeling you want attendees to walk away with? What's the objective? Where is your attendee at before the event, and where do you want them to be at the end? When you design every element to fit into that story, it’s not just an event. It’s an experience people won’t forget This applies to 50 person workshops and 2,000 person conferences Remember, stories don’t have to be complicated... ...Sometimes the simplest ones are the most powerful.

We help internal teams align six key steps when designing their conference throughline. Through these key steps, we ensure that conferences are developed around best practices that set the bar higher than a fun experience and deliver outcomes and momentum that continues well after the event itself has wrapped up. SW&A’s Key Steps for Conferences: · Step One: Set the Content Team & Process · Step Two: Align the Communicators to Messaging · Step Three: Build Content & Context · Step Four: Blend Content & Context · Step Five: Add Supporting Roles · Step Six: Measure Outcomes To get more in-depth information on each of these steps, read @Sally’s latest newsletter. With the conference season approaching, it's essential to keep in mind that "Where have you been?" holds more weight than "Why did you come?". It's easy to lose sight of our significance by focusing on superficial aspects, ultimately wasting valuable time for ourselves and others. One key practice before organizing any event is to ask: What is my objective? Will this event align with my goals? By staying aligned with these questions, we can ensure that our time and efforts are invested wisely, leading to more impactful outcomes. #Conferences #Networking #EventPlanning
