MATERIALS IN HVAC PLENUMS | By Chad Jones, PE, CMSE, CFEI, CVFI What materials are suitable for installation in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) plenums? Let’s first define a plenum. The 2021 edition of the International Mechanical Code (IMC), a subset of the International Building Code (IBC), defines a plenum as ... In Building Management Systems (BMS), the differential pressure switch (DPS) is used to track the pressure differential across a filter, like an air or water . A filter becomes clogged as dirt builds up, which reduces fluid or air flow. In order to notify the system or building operators when maintenance is required, the DPS switch assists in detecting this change in pressure. To put it simply, here is how it operates: Sensing pressure: The two pressure ports on the DP switch are positioned downstream (after the filter) and upstream (before the filter). The pressure on either side of the filter is measured by these two ports. Pressure Differential: Normally, there should be a reasonable balance between the pressures before and after the filter. In outcome, by keep focus on the pressure differential across the filter, a differential pressure switch helps to make sure filters are operating correctly. To be able to maintain the performance of HVAC systems, air handling units (AHUs), or other filtered systems in the building, the filter needs to be maintained when the gap gets out of control. #bms #building_managment_system #automatian #sensors #hvac

ASHRAE Standard 90.1 is a standard that specifies minimum efficiencies for cooling towers, fluid coolers, and dry coolers. These minimum efficiencies are often specified in building codes and contracts. To comply with Standard 90.1 and reduce project risk, many consulting engineers rely on published thermal performance ratings certified under the Cooling Technology Institute’s (CTI) STD 201 program. By choosing CTl--certified equipment, you benefit from verified thermal performance which reduces the need for oversizing heat rejection equipment, and ensures adherence to rigorous energy performance standards. 🌱 Read more about how ASHRAE Standard 90.1 impacts the thermal performance certification of heat rejection equipment: https://lnkd.in/gUiuXhVB #EnergyEfficiency #ASHRAE90_1 #HVAC #Sustainability #GreenBuilding

Optimising a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system reduces the cost of the installation. This is achieved through the use of CFD. This technique also makes it possible to measure the concentration of pollutants in the air and to study the dispersion effects that can be caused by the HVAC system, for example, in a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). Key parameters that can be measured by CFD: - The mean age of air (MAA) in the building: average of the time that particles contained in a differential volume around a point have been inside the space for each point in the space - The efficiency (ε) of the ventilation system: ratio between the minimum time that a particle spends in the space from the input to the output, and twice the mean age of air - The concentration of a chemical compound: measured in milligrams of compound per cubic meter of air giving a unit of particles per million (ppm) For a detailed explanation, read the full article in our web.
