The biggest change in Renault’s autonomous vehicle strategy involves focusing its more advanced autonomous technologies on the public transportation sector, and its intention to separate the expectations for individual vehicles from the needs of public transportation.

Transport is undergoing a big transformation right now getting more sustainable. Both in terms of electrification/sustainable fuels for propulsion but also in terms of automation for increased safety and efficiency. Another OEM Entering the Class-8 EV Market Hyundai Motor Unveils Level 4 Autonomous Fuel Cell Electric Truck Nolan Beilstein 5/22/2024 Hyundai Motor Company and autonomous driving software developer Plus announced the updated XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck — now characterized as a Level 4 autonomous Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric truck. Adding Self-Driving to the Truck The collaboration between Hyundai and Plus integrates Plus’ Level 4 SuperDrive autonomous driving system into Hyundai Motor’s fuel cell electric truck. XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck Is the First Class 8 to Do This The XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck is currently undergoing autonomous driving tests in the United States. According to a Hyundai Motor press release, it is the first Class 8 fuel cell electric truck to be tested at Level 4 self-driving. Since its debut in 2020, Hyundai Motor’s XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck has been in commercial operations across eight countries. Last year, the company revealed the XCIENT Fuel Cell tractor, a Class 8 6×4 fuel cell electric model with a pair of 90-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell systems and a 350-kilowatt electric motor, which provides a range of more than 450 miles.  The Quest for Safe, Sustainable Transportation Plus is deploying its SuperDrive solution across Europe, Australia, and the U.S. The system features various sensors, including cameras, radar, and LiDAR, for planning, perception, self-driving, and prediction.  Plus co-founder and COO Shawn Kerrigan praised the collaboration, highlighting its goal to develop safer and more sustainable transportation solutions.

If General Motors, the remaining automakers, and non-auto industry fully autonomous development companies had done their jobs properly in pre-testing Fully Autonomous Vehicles (FAVs), there would have been no need for Human Safety Backups! The greatest mistake was not perfecting the technology on Closed-Loop Test Tracks before deploying it on the Street for Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning. Scania is all set to launch the Autonomous Commercial Pilot Programme as part of expanding its strategic development of autonomous hub-to-hub solutions. The goal is to enhance operating efficiency, lower transport emissions, and improve road safety while addressing the global driver shortage. Scania plans to expand pilot operations in European countries in 2024, highlighting a commitment to providing autonomous solutions to customers. As part of TRATON Group, Scania will also be involved in a new partnership with US-based Plus, which will integrate its Level 4, fully autonomous SuperDrive™ technology stack into Scania and TRATON Group vehicles. Scania trucks equipped with Plus’s Level 4 autonomous driving system are already being tested on public roads in Europe, with a safety driver on board. The two companies will pilot commercial operations with fleets, then start series production and global commercial deployment at scale.
